DragonForce took the stage in a dramatically different configuration on May 9 at this year’s ‘Welcome To Rockville’ festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, marking the band’s first live performance since adding Alissa White-Gluz to their lineup.
Last week, the platinum-certified power metal outfit surprised fans by announcing that the former Arch Enemy and The Agonist vocalist had joined the band in an additional vocal role alongside longtime frontman Marc Hudson.
However, the festival performance delivered another unexpected development, as Hudson did not appear onstage, leaving Alissa White-Gluz to handle lead vocal duties during the set.
According to a statement issued by the band, Hudson is currently stepping away from live performances due to ongoing hearing loss and tinnitus-related issues:
“This hasn’t been a sudden decision, but something he has been managing behind the scenes for quite some time. After careful consideration, it’s become clear that taking a little break is the best move for his long-term health and recovery.”
The band continued by assuring fans that Hudson remains involved creatively and that new material featuring both singers is already in development:
“We know many of you were looking forward to seeing him on stage again with Alissa, but don’t worry. We have new music with Marc and Alissa in the works. In the meantime, Billy [Wilkins, touring guitarist/vocalist] will be stepping in to handle the next two live performances.”
DragonForce concluded the message by thanking fans for their continued support amid the temporary lineup change.
The band are currently scheduled to perform again in this updated configuration at the upcoming ‘Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival’ in Columbus, Ohio on May 17.

I totally get the hearing loss thing. Because I have a tinnitus issue with my ears as well and it’s mainly because I went to many concerts without ear plugs and being in the environment all the time does damage your ears. So I recommend people to always wear ear plugs because it does happen eventually, trust me.
Either way, I hope Marc Hudson recovers soon, he’s a great singer even at the live shows!
