A Perfect Circle‘s acclaimed sophomore album Thirteenth Step is receiving a new deluxe vinyl pressing as part of Interscope-Capitol’s Definitive Sound Series.
The remastered 2LP AAA 180-gram high-definition vinyl edition is scheduled for release on August 28 and will be limited to 3,000 numbered copies. The release follows the band’s 2000 debut, Mer de Noms, which was previously reissued through the same premium audiophile series.
According to the label, the new pressing was cut from the album’s original analog master tapes, with Levi Seitz of Black Belt Mastering handling the majority of the mastering work. The release was pressed on Neotech VR900 D2 180g high-definition vinyl by Dorin Sauerbier at Record Technology, Inc.
The Definitive Sound Series edition utilizes the One-Step manufacturing process, which removes multiple plating stages to preserve greater sonic detail. The label says the process delivers enhanced clarity, depth, dynamic range, and overall fidelity while remaining faithful to the original recordings.
The collector’s edition will feature a heavyweight tip-on double-pocket gatefold jacket housed inside a custom slipcase.
A statement accompanying the announcement reads:
“The Definitive Sound Series edition of Thirteenth Step was mastered by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Mastering from 24-Bit/96kHz files transferred from analog flat masters, except ‘Crimes’ and ‘Lullaby,’ which were mastered from 24-Bit/44.1kHz files, and pressed on Neotech VR900 D2 180g high-definition vinyl by Dorin Sauerbier at Record Technology, Inc.
Utilizing the state-of-the-art One-Step process, which eliminates multiple plating stages, the release reveals the album’s expansive soundscapes, layered instrumentation, and dynamic range with exceptional clarity, depth, and presence.
This Definitive Sound Series edition is limited to 3,000 numbered copies, includes a heavyweight tip-on double-pocket gatefold jacket, and is housed inside a uniquely designed slipcase.
Special care has been taken to faithfully preserve the original sound with exceptional clarity and depth, capturing the recording’s nuances at every step to create the definitive sound recording. The One-Step process is highly regarded among audiophiles and collectors for its unparalleled sound fidelity and represents the pinnacle of vinyl manufacturing and the listening experience.”
Originally released in September 2003, Thirteenth Step became one of A Perfect Circle’s most successful releases, earning Gold certification just two months after its debut before being certified Platinum in March 2006.
Pre-orders for the limited edition vinyl are available now through Capitol Music.
