Aaron Turner Launches ‘No ICE’ Benefit Shirt To Support Minneapolis Families After Fatal Shooting

Aaron Turner — known for his work with Isis, SUMAC, Old Man Gloom, and other projects — has released a new benefit shirt design protesting the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) amid rising tensions in Minneapolis. The shirt went live on January 25th, shortly after the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37‑year‑old Minneapolis resident who was killed during an ICE‑involved enforcement action earlier this month.

Turner’s design cleverly incorporates the word “NO” spelled out in ice — not only making a clear political statement, but also nodding to Old Man Gloom’s 2012 album of the same name.

Proceeds from the shirt — available as a pre‑order via Big Cartel — will benefit Support Phillips Families In Urgent Need, a Minneapolis‑based fundraiser providing rent relief, groceries, medical support, and other assistance to families affected by federal enforcement activities. Turner described the project as:

“Send a subtle/not‑so‑subtle message with one of these fine garments, and help raise funds for Minneapolis folks doing good work in the process. Proceeds from the sales of these shirts will be given to ‘Support Phillips Families in Urgent Need’ — a MN based fund-raising effort providing occupation‑impacted families with support for rent relief, groceries, medical needs and more… Please note: this is a pre‑order and shirts will ship in March.”

The effort has earned backing from fellow metalcore pioneers Converge, who highlighted Turner’s design and stance:

“We are Converge and we stand with the good people of Minnesota. We stand against sanctioned violence against our neighbors and communities. Our good friend @aaronbturner made this artwork.”

Turner’s release comes amid widespread outrage in Minneapolis and beyond over recent enforcement actions and protests tied to federal immigration operations, which have drawn calls for accountability at both local and national levels.
