Alex Terrible, vocalist of Slaughter To Prevail, has addressed controversy surrounding the band’s recent appearance at Bloodstock Festival, claiming that a protest was held in an effort to have the group’s performance canceled.
Following the performance, Terrible shared a video addressing criticism he had received from members of the trans community. In the video, the frontman questioned what he was expected to apologize for and said he would be willing to apologize if someone explained the issue to him.
“I genuinely don’t understand what I’m supposed to apologize to the trans community for. Can someone please explain it to me? I’ll apologize, no problem. I’m not too proud to do it.”
Terrible also claimed that he had been told a protest had taken place before Slaughter To Prevail took the stage in an attempt to prevent the band’s performance from going ahead.
“I was told they even protested to try to get our performance canceled before we went on stage. I understand that not everyone likes us, and that we especially don’t appeal to people who lack critical thinking. But that’s okay. I used to be like that myself. The important thing is to keep changing for the better.”
The comments came after one user asked Terrible to use the situation as an opportunity to apologize and explain how he planned to make amends with the trans community.
Terrible subsequently shared additional messages and comments he had received, pushing back against the criticism and arguing that he does not have an issue with people’s personal identities, beliefs, or lifestyles.
“You guys are the ones who have a problem with me — I don’t have a problem with you.”
Terrible continued by saying that he does not believe he should be expected to involve himself in the personal lives or beliefs of other people.
“I genuinely don’t care how you identify, who you sleep with, how you dress, what religion you follow, what political views you have, or anything else. I literally DO NOT CARE, guys!”
“What I DON’T LIKE is when someone tries to push their values or beliefs onto me.”
The Slaughter To Prevail frontman said he believes respect should be mutual and that he will treat people respectfully provided they respect his boundaries.
“I treat every person with respect as long as they treat me with respect, respect my boundaries, and don’t disrespect what I consider sacred.”
Terrible also responded to criticism from Blaire White, saying he believed comments accusing him of spreading hate were misrepresenting his position.
“He’s literally saying that I’m spreading hate. Apparently, saying that I respect every person and simply don’t want to get involved in other people’s personal lives, identities, or beliefs that have nothing to do with me is, in their eyes, ‘spreading hate.’”
The singer went on to reference accusations that he has been labeled a Nazi, saying that he finds the continued claims difficult to understand.
“If THAT is what counts as spreading hate, then I’m honestly not surprised they call me a Nazi.”
Terrible also addressed fans who have criticized him for not publicly supporting causes or individuals amid controversial comments online. He questioned whether musicians should be expected to take responsibility for the personal beliefs of everyone who listens to their music.
“I want to see FANS at my shows — people who genuinely love my music — not people who are just there because they feel like they need to ‘support’ us.”
He added that he believes everyone, including transgender people, deserves love while reiterating that he does not want others imposing their beliefs on him.
“I’ve made my position very clear: I respect every person who treats me with respect. I’m against war and violence. I make music, and I genuinely don’t give a fuck what your personal beliefs are.”
“Everyone deserves love, and trans too.”
Terrible concluded by pushing back against claims that he has secretly maintained extremist views despite publicly saying otherwise.
“I constantly see people saying, ‘Go watch his interviews in Russian. He openly says he never changed his neo-Nazi views and that he’s just pretending.’ When I read comments like that, I don’t even laugh anymore. It honestly scares me how stupid people can be — and how many people actually believe this shit without even thinking for themselves.”
He ultimately said he would rather perform for a smaller audience that he believes thinks critically than change his approach to satisfy a larger crowd.
“I would rather play in front of 100 people who think before they speak and have some critical thinking skills than bend over backwards for 10,000 idiots who are ready to believe absolutely anything and expect me to dance to their tune. Period.”
