Shock rock legend Alice Cooper gave fans an unexpected moment over the weekend during his annual ‘Coopstock’ fundraising event in Mesa, AZ, delivering a surprise live performance of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.
In what appears to be his live debut of the track, the 78-year-old rock icon reimagined the 1991 grunge anthem during the event, dedicating the performance to a late “friend,” according to fan footage circulating online.
The annual ‘Coopstock’ concert once again served as a fundraising event, but this year’s edition stood out thanks to the unexpected cover, which quickly caught attention across social media.
Recent changes in Cooper’s live lineup have also brought fresh energy to his band. British guitarist Anna Cara, 22, recently stepped into the role, replacing Nita Strauss, who stepped away temporarily as she prepares for the birth of her first child this summer.
The surprise performance adds another memorable chapter to Alice Cooper’s long history of live unpredictability, continuing to show why his stage shows remain anything but ordinary.
