Canadian progressive metal outfit Anciients have revisited their early catalog with a newly re-recorded version of “Humanist,” giving the song a fresh production treatment while also bringing a familiar face back into the fold.
Originally released in 2011, “Humanist” served as the opening track of the band’s debut EP, ‘Snakebeard’. For the new version, the group’s current lineup returned to the song in the studio, with former guitarist and vocalist Chris Dyck also making a guest appearance.
According to vocalist and guitarist Kenny Cook, the decision to revisit “Humanist” came after the band heard the results of last year’s re-recording of “Built To Die.” That experience prompted them to give the early track the same treatment.
“‘Humanist’ was the first song we recorded as a band. After hearing the sonic improvements that came with re-recording ‘Built To Die’ last year, we wanted to give ‘Humanist’ the same treatment. The song represents a wild dream. Musically, ‘Humanist’ is one of our heaviest, though we chuck a little bit of everything into the composition.”
With the updated recording now available, Anciients will also be taking their progressive metal attack across Europe this fall, with shows booked through October.
