As I Lay Dying has been hit by a wave of lineup changes, with three members departing in less than a week, causing the cancellation of their European tour. On October 24th, drummer Nick Pierce (formerly of Unearth) became the latest member to leave, citing personal health concerns and integrity as reasons for his exit. Despite the sudden departure, Pierce expressed gratitude for the support from fans and his bandmates during his time with the band. He is now actively seeking new opportunities in his drumming career.
Earlier that same day, guitarist Ken Susi also revealed his departure, stating that his personal morals had been tested to a breaking point. He joined As I Lay Dying in 2022, hoping to help rebuild the band’s legacy. Susi expressed disappointment over the turn of events and solidarity with former bassist/vocalist Ryan Neff, who had left the band just days earlier.
The departures of Nick Pierce, Ken Susi, and Ryan Neff have left As I Lay Dying‘s future in question. Their upcoming album, Through Storms Ahead, remains scheduled for release on November 15th, though the band’s next steps are unclear.
Guitarist Phil Sgrosso, one of the band’s core members alongside vocalist Tim Lambesis, has yet to release a full statement but acknowledged the difficult circumstances surrounding the situation in a brief social media post.

“As of today, I have made the decision to leave As I Lay Dying. After much reflection, I believe this is the best step for my personal and professional journey. I appreciate all the support from fans during my time with the band.”
Ken Susi‘s statement from October 24th read:
“My time with As I Lay Dying has come to an end. I joined this band knowing its dramatic past, but I wanted to play great music with great friends. Sadly, my personal morals were tested, and this is the unfortunate ending to what could have been the band’s greatest second chance. I regret not standing by Ryan Neff sooner, and I leave with gratitude for everyone’s support.”

“As of today, I am no longer playing drums for As I Lay Dying. While this wasn’t the ending I had hoped for, I must prioritize my health and integrity. Thank you to everyone who supported me. I look forward to continuing my drumming career and making new music.”
