As I Lay Dying have completed recording their next studio album, and the band are now turning to their fans for help in determining the final tracklist.
Frontman Tim Lambesis revealed via social media that the band recorded 12 songs for the upcoming effort, with plans to ultimately select 10 tracks for the finished album.
To help fans get a feel for the material, the band will begin previewing two songs from opposite ends of the album’s musical spectrum: “Polarized” and “Retribution.”
Both tracks will receive full releases on September 15, after which As I Lay Dying will open up voting and ask fans whether both songs belong on the new record.
Lambesis described “Polarized” as the more melodic of the two tracks, featuring a mid-tempo approach and more clean singing while retaining the band’s heaviness. In contrast, “Retribution” is described as a fast, dark, and heavy track with no singing whatsoever.
According to Lambesis, most of the remaining material falls somewhere between these two extremes.
“We figured we should bring you guys into the conversation.”
The band will begin introducing the two songs over the coming week before their full releases on September 15.
