Pioneering Swedish melodic death metal band At The Gates have released a new animated film accompanying their latest album, ‘The Ghost Of A Future Past.’
Released in April, the album serves as a posthumous final release featuring the late Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg, who passed away in September 2025 following a battle with cancer.
The newly released animated film brings the album’s visual story to life, with artist and filmmaker Costin Chioreanu, known for his work with Katatonia and Blackbraid, handling the project.
Chioreanu described the experience as one of the most demanding projects of his career, particularly given the circumstances surrounding the album.
“This is by far the most intense project I’ve done, not only due the circumstances but also because the album is so intense and it requires an insane rhythm for the whole dynamic.”
He continued:
“It is also the first time that I am doing a full album art video and, honestly, I think it will remain singular of this kind in my career, as I’ve been over several of my limits with this one.”
Chioreanu also spoke about what the project meant to him personally, calling the finished film a tribute to his late friend and the band.
“But I am so happy that I could finish this monument for my friend Tomas and for his magical band, who will remain with my heart and my memory till the end of my time here and beyond.”
‘The Ghost Of A Future Past’ stands as the final At The Gates album featuring Lindberg, adding further significance to the band’s latest visual release.
