Today, September 16, marks one year since the passing of At The Gates and Disfear vocalist Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg.
The influential Swedish vocalist died at the age of 52 after battling adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of cancer he was diagnosed with in December 2023.
Despite his illness, Lindberg continued working with At The Gates, recording the vocals that would ultimately become his final album with the band, ‘The Ghost Of A Future Dead’. The record was released posthumously in April of this year.
On the first anniversary of his passing, Lindberg’s At The Gates bandmates took to social media to remember their friend and longtime collaborator while also thanking fans for continuing to celebrate his life and legacy.
“Tomas.
Today marks one year since you left us. It still feels unfathomable, and the pain of losing you remains really immense. The world without you feels like an empty place and we are still learning how to navigate life without you.
You were one of the kindest, most generous, funniest person that we got to know, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to be your friend and to create music together.”
The band also expressed their gratitude to fans who have continued to share memories, photographs, and stories about Lindberg.
“We would also like to express our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to all the fans for your kind words, stories, and photos of Tomas. Your messages have meant more to us than we can put into words.
Thank you all, and thank you for remembering Tomas, for keeping his memory alive, and for continuing to share his legacy.”
At The Gates concluded their message by encouraging fans to share their own memories of Lindberg in the comments, turning the anniversary into a day of remembrance for the late vocalist.
