ATREYU Drop New Single “Dead” After Week-Long Death Tease

After nearly a week of cryptic teasers hinting at their supposed “death,” Atreyu have officially returned with their brand-new single “Dead.” Leading up to its release, the band blacked out their social media and even launched an obituary-style website, atreyuisdead.com, to push the narrative.

Of course, the announcement of more tour dates through 2026 made it clear the group wasn’t actually calling it quits. Instead, the stunt built hype for a track the band describe as deeply reflective:

“‘Dead‘ asked the question I feel many ask. Do I matter? Would anyone actually notice if I was gone? Not speaking in the space of depression or suicidal thought, but more in the grand scheme of life. We all want and aspire to leave some sort of lasting legacy or impression, but do we really matter? I guess we all hope so.”

The single was recorded with producer Matthew Pauling. Beyond the new release, Atreyu are keeping busy with extensive touring, much of it celebrating the 20th anniversary of their gold-certified 2004 album The Curse — including a full re-recording of the album with their current lineup.
