Gold-certified melodic metalcore veterans Atreyu have announced their tenth studio album, The End Is Not The End, set for release April 24 via Spinefarm Records.
The band have already issued two singles from the record — “Dead,” which arrived alongside a controversial promotional stunt, and the heavier “Ego Death.” A third single, “All For You,” initially debuted via SiriusXM and is now available online with a music video directed by Sean Stiegemeier.
Frontman Brandon Saller explained that much of the album was written during creative retreats, including a trip to Tokyo, Japan.
“We realized what made Atreyu great in the beginning was that we didn’t sound like anyone else. We didn’t really make sense anywhere. We weren’t an emo band, a metal band, a punk band — but somehow it all worked. We kind of just carved our own path.”
He continued:
“Tokyo made us feel like kids again. We’d write for a few hours in the morning, then go out and get lost in all this inspiration. The first song we finished was ‘Dead,’ and we knew we were onto something.”
Another writing session took place on San Juan Island off the coast of Washington, which brought a different energy to the material.
“It was the polar opposite of Tokyo. We didn’t leave the house for four days and wrote some of the heaviest songs on the record.”
Producer Matt Pauling (Good Charlotte, Fever 333) once again collaborated with the band. According to Saller, the finished product pushes their sound further into metallic territory.
“It’s our heaviest, most metal record we’ve made. But it’s also the biggest musical journey we’ve taken in years.”
The album also features a guest appearance from Max Cavalera (Soulfly) on “Children Of Light.”
