Billy Corgan Brings ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ Opera To Europe And The UK

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is set to bring his orchestral and operatic reimagining of the band’s landmark album ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’ to Europe and the UK this September.

The production, which originally debuted as part of the album’s 30th anniversary celebrations, reworks the classic double album into a full symphonic and operatic performance featuring classical instrumentation and vocal arrangements.

• 09/11 Madrid, SPA – Palacio Vistalegre

The production will feature returning classical performers from the original run, including baritone Ed Parks on the London, Belgium, and France dates. Soprano Sydney Mancasola, mezzo-soprano Zoie Reams, and tenor Dominick Valdes Chenes will appear throughout the tour, while baritone Dean Murphy will perform exclusively at the Madrid finale.

Corgan commented on bringing the project overseas:

“The success of translating ‘Mellon Collie‘ into operatic and classical form has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life, where on each of the seven sold-out nights in Chicago we’d finish within the raucous wave of a standing ovation. So to now take it on the road, and to Europe, too says this magical dream doesn’t have to end.”

“It has been so gratifying to discover how the nuances and layers of ‘Mellon Collie‘ reveal themselves in fresh new ways in these symphonic, choral and operatic settings. To now have the opportunity to perform this work in Europe with world-class musicians in such important venues is nothing short of thrilling.”
