Billy Corgan Expands “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” European Opera Run With New Dates

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has expanded the upcoming European/UK run of his operatic reimagining of “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.”

Following its acclaimed debut last year in Chicago, the production is now set for an expanded international staging this fall, adding additional performances in Rotterdam, Brussels, and multiple cities across Europe.

The diamond-certified double album has been transformed into a full operatic interpretation, featuring classical arrangements and a rotating cast of vocalists across the run.

The production will feature a rotating lineup of classical vocalists, including baritone Ed Parks, soprano Sydney Mancasola, mezzo-soprano Zoie Reams, and tenor Dominick Valdes Chenes. Baritone Dean Murphy will appear exclusively on the closing Spain dates.

Corgan spoke about the project’s expansion, reflecting on its success in Chicago:

“The success of translating ‘Mellon Collie’ into operatic and classical form has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. Where on each of the 7 sold out nights in Chicago we’d finish within the raucous wave of a standing ovation. So to now take it on the road, and to Europe, too says this magical dream doesn’t have to end.”

Meanwhile, The Smashing Pumpkins will also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” on a separate traditional tour later this year.
