In a new in-depth feature from Revolver, A PERFECT CIRCLE take a comprehensive look back at their 25-year journey, while also teasing what’s next. The retrospective includes reflections from both MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN and BILLY HOWERDEL, touching on everything from their early days to the rotating cast of band members.
From the band’s formation and navigating around TOOL’s downtime, to candid insights on former members like PAZ LENCHANTIN and JOSH FREESE, the piece leaves few stones unturned.
But beyond the nostalgia, there’s a spark of what’s to come: Billy Howerdel confirmed that writing is underway for the long-awaited follow-up to Eat The Elephant (2018). Speaking about the creative process so far, Howerdel revealed:
“As I’m writing, sometimes I find myself [thinking], Wow, I really like this, but man, this is fucking sinister. I’m in a not-sleeping-much and self-discovery mode. When I’m writing music, I’ve been full night-terror, waking up — like, can’t let your mind rest thing.”
Keenan added:
“I’m always writing. I’m writing with everyone… And if I can get the other guys [Tool] to dig in, there’s always that. I’m sure that Billy’s got a folder of fun stuff for me to dig through. It’s all about timing.”
While fans may want to brace themselves for a wait—Keenan still has harvest season at his winery and an expected new PUSCIFER album on the way—the window for new A PERFECT CIRCLE material is open, especially as TOOL continue at a characteristically slow pace.
In the meantime, A PERFECT CIRCLE are currently on the road as part of the ‘Sessanta’ tour, which finds them performing alongside PUSCIFER and PRIMUS, with band members rotating in and out across the sets. The tour celebrates Keenan’s 60th birthday milestone, with the first leg having taken place last year. Remaining dates for this year’s leg include:
05/24 Indianapolis, IN – Ruoff Music Center
05/25 Cleveland, OH – Blossom Music Center
05/28 Grand Rapids, MI – Van Andel Arena
05/29 St. Louis, MO – Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre
05/31 Milwaukee, WI – American Family Insurance Amphitheater
06/01 St. Paul, MN – Xcel Energy Center
06/03 Omaha, NE – Baxter Arena
06/06 Portland, OR – RV Inn Style Resorts Amphitheater
06/07 Auburn, WA – White River Amphitheatre

Yesssss
Hope it’s better than Eat The Elephant. What a steaming pile of 💩
Sam Mitchell wrong.
Sam Mitchell Disillusioned is a beautiful song.
Sam Mitchell L take
Cole Newsom oh whatever. You cant tell me with a straight face that it was better or as good as Thirteenth Step, Mir De Noms, & Emotive.
Sam Mitchell not many alternative rock albums, or hell rock albums in general, are as good as those first two.
Sam Mitchell No one that’s listened to “Get the Lead Out” would ever say such a thing…
100% accurate. Only fanboys who are too afraid to say any different would say it was anything other than garbage. I knew ETE was going to blow once I saw the album cover.

Sam Mitchell I have it on vinyl and only spun it once
I loved ETE.
About time
About the frkn time
Duh. Billy is a creature of creation. There’s always going to be APC in process as long as he’s with us, which I pray is a long, long time. Ashes Divide and his solo record are absolute gold mines of audio fantasticism.
Chad Hindahl got to see Ashes Divide open up for Linkin Park and Chris Cornell in 2008, they were amazing. I wish he’d do more with them
Ben Waldock Give his solo effort a try if you haven’t. It very much feels like Ashes, with maybe leaning a bit harder into the electronics in a Depeche Mode way.
Chad Hindahl oh snap, didn’t know he had that. I thought Ashes was his solo thing lol
Ben Waldock it was at first him with an actual band now he is more so going by his own name and doing most of everything himself with some help from a few other musicians, a la Trent Reznor/ Nine Inch Nails back catalog style. But Billy’s new album that just came out not to long ago os fucking dope! It’s. Better than the Ashes album (In my opinion) and feels more like that album mixed with Thirteenth Step mixed with Depeche Mode. Definitely recommend.
Chad Hindahl it’s because of this work ethic you talk about that I sometimes I wish he was a 5th member of Tool. If him and Jones could find ways to sync creatively, I think he could help take their music to another level, while also helping them produce quality music at a more acceptable pace.
After hearing the last album … please don’t
ETE was great.
Joe Car Maynards best album imo
Joe Car ETE takes some deeper listening to appreciate it’s nature. It’s different but some gems in there for sure. “So long and thanks for all the fish” is great and if you don’t have a sense of humor you won’t quite get the full enjoyment out of that one.
Donnie Crump lol
Donnie Crump seriously, it was crap.
Donnie Crump couldn’t agree more.i tried but couldn’t get into cage the elephant
Scott Valfre Cage? Nice blunder!
It sucked..!!! Especially when they redid by and down. Should have left it alone
Scott Valfre We all agree.. There’s like 2 good songs
Donnie Crump

Donnie Crump then go listen to Kid Rock and shut your pubis pile hole. JfC you idiots have no bottom

Donnie Crump awe. How cute.
Donnie Crump it was wonderful
Donnie Crump How contrarian of you.
Donnie Crump it’s only their best.
Donnie Crump cage the elephant is brilliant. In every way.
Donnie Crump it was a masterpiece.
James Ireland 👎🏻👎🏻feather was the only good good one and it was never released as a single LAME and a white long sleeve like ugh who wars white ?!? lol yes I bought it but wtf haha
James Ireland hell no it wasn’t.
Chili Dean it seems the majority highly disagrees with you.
Donnie Crump no worse than emotive
Donnie Crump i kind of hope they return to their roots on this one
Donnie Crump oh no… do you not like bands who evolve over time? 13th step was different from Mer De… was that transition subtle enough?
Keith Duvall When the evo goes downhill.. No not so much. You wanna hear a band with REAL evolving?
Media: https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia1.tenor.co%2Fm%2FbCRDBH9TdkIAAAAC%2Fdeath-metal-death.gif&h=AT1z8kB8rwb-oDQnc48u_nzAMk_0uwoSUNXd5hy4qWTc24OOWJZ1J9q7pi75emGAEUBoJThZFczeiLZ77wLoIgQx5nNhxZKLwvzkE7fAvddhLfUmyslAlDlWJ5kCuMp6&s=1
Donnie Crump took me a while. You should try again. That album is soo good
Donnie Crump ETE is pretty solid. Hourglass is trash though
Aaron Begin hourglass is fucking epiccccc
Leanne Alicia More power to you. For me I can’t stand all the shitty synths lyrics and weird hip hop vocal shit that Maynard does its too much 😂
Donnie Crump it was so bad.
Donnie Crump yeah I couldn’t even really get through it. Such a far cry from where they started.
Donnie Crump u fucking high???? It was INCREDIBLE!!
Donnie Crump ETE was a damn near perfect evolution, beautifully produced, ordered, written, even the art was second level.
Joshua Colburn as a producer myself I can’t stand the drums on that album. Not the performance, the sound of the drums. 13th step the noose, for example excellent snare, kick drum and hi hat sound… every ghost note on the snare was perfect. You probably have no idea what I just said. lol
Joshua Colburn 💯
Randonis Balthazar Calrissian Calling it trash and asking them to stop making music is a bridge too far IMO. What’s your biggest credit? Not that they care what anybody thinks anyway, which is my favorite part.
Joshua Colburn album was boring as hell. Copy of fear inoculum
Randonis Balthazar Calrissian Different drummer than those other albums 🤷🏻♂️
Donnie Crump yeah friggn right
Donnie Crump if you have bad taste in music just say THAT. It’s not for everyone but people who have a broad taste will definitely appreciate and possibly love the album. It really was some of the best stuff overall they have written imo. Progression isn’t always a bad thing but no need to hate just because it wasn’t your cup of tea.
Donnie Crump I didn’t like it at first, but I think that’s because I was expecting something different. Then I really gave it a chance and i think it’s a phenomenal album.
Donnie Crump sorry you didn’t like it but that album is amazing
Donnie Crump Only the first one was solid, Went downhill from there.
Donnie Crump 🤡
Donnie Crump I’m not really sure a few years ago found an interview with a lines that make me think a lot:
This was.
Maynard tell me don’t make more heavy songs…or some like that
I think Tool members was jealous about the result on the first album …
Probably for this reason every album is more slow …
Eat The Elephant was outstanding
Donnie Crump U are entitled to your WRONG opinion.
Donnie Crump Don’t be like Metallica fans lol
Donnie Crump hahahaha sweet jesus you might def have a point BUt they are killin them oldie goodies on sessenta tour 🤘🏻🤘🏻🌀
Donnie Crump I loved it!!
Donnie Crump It’s easier for you to not listen to it than it is for an artist to not create art for themselves.
Cry more about it
Donnie Crump rude
Donnie Crump you clearly heard it, didn’t listen to it
Donnie Crump ???? That album was amazing .
Sweet!!!
I’d rather have something from ashes divide.
Where is the girl? I’m old so I don’t keep up much
Patrick McChesney She’s been gone for at least 20 years.
Patrick McChesney Billy Corgan stole her in the early 2000s for his band zwan
Please bring Paz back
Travis Dolby I think all of us day 1 APC fans have been secretly longing for that to become a reality
I’d love to see Paz and Iha on the same stage.
Travis Mann they were at Sassanta in Hollywood last year as well as all of Tool
Shawn Patrick Stephenson I was under the impression that they did not overlap at anytime. If they did, I’ll need to youtube that!
Travis Mann it was a great surprise!
might as well considering it will be another seven more years before the next tool album in order to stay on track for their thirteen years between albums policy
Ryan Scott 92, 93, 96, 01, 06, 19 (due to external circumstances). But sure, 6 albums over 78 years seems far more accurate.
Adam Ewart lol
Ryan Scott Fibonacci, it’s 21 years next
Johnny Dixon brilliant
Ryan Scott guess you missed that Tool will be putting out new music soon confirmed my Justin Chancellor
🙌
Love PC more than Tool or any other Maynard project.
Carlos Avina yes far superior musicians
Josey Hendryx
That last album was trash…
Awesome! One band I have yet to see live that I want to.
Paz and Josh have free time. Let’s goooo.
Mark Wilson agreed! James needs to come back as well.
Greg Harvey I don’t think James has actually recorded anything with APC other than what he contributed to Emotive. He’s a touring member.
Robert D’Amico yeah I suppose that’s true. Still would like to see him back tho.
Greg Harvey I thought he was touring with them now. I’m not 100% sure.
Robert D’Amico no it’s Greg from Failure. James is with SP.
Greg Harvey I thought I read he was doing this tour since SP aren’t touring until later this summer. Billy Corgan is going to be doing a solo tour with a completely different line up in the meantime.
Greg Harvey he’s only free while Billy does his short solo tour.
Robert D’Amico I remember watching an interview with this line up of the band and James didn’t know how his guitar was tooned. I was like, I get it. Maybe his Guitar Techs take care of that. But Billy, Matt and Josh were into and enthusiastic about it. Now that makes sense and maybe Billy is like here you go.
Brad Toy that makes sense.
Mark Wilson yes!
Adam Rich
Derek McNeill Hell yes!!!!
He should confirm the works on an updated band photo
His solo albums are amazing also. Checkout ashes divide album. Brilliant
Cannibal Dan Can confirm! His solo debut album is dope. There’s some parts that are kinda choppy and meh in most of the songs but overall such great inventive melodies and song approaches.
Idine Gh
Hell yeah. Hopefully it’s not a turd like the last one
No Josh? He’s finally free from the Backstreet Boys
Sorry amazing live
Anything will be better than Eat the Elephant. Awful album…
Donald R Lewis Jr. brilliant album and brilliant tour.
To each his own.
Donald R Lewis Jr. We may never get another 13th Step
Donald R Lewis Jr. I hope your right. 13rh step is a fucking masterpiece.
Rich Gregor Mer de noms too!
Donald R Lewis Jr. after 2 masterpieces they released that garbage. Terrible album
Kevin D Jones 😱
Kristina Heimersson Yasssss
Yes!🙌🏻
Bring it to me
DerekJames GordonValentine
New Tool! 😑
Eat the Elephant was interesting. It grew on me but I don’t want another like it. Keep changing it up!
Wayne Clair III unfortunately they’re all getting old and that’s where they’re heading
Can’t wait.
After seeing them at Sessanta v2.0, I am ready for the next album and let them cook and make the best album possible.
Media: https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia1.tenor.co%2Fm%2F-ZYwMwj6z-EAAAAd%2Fyes-sure.gif%3Fc%3DVjFfZmFjZWJvb2tfd2ViY29tbWVudHM&h=AT0-oA5MzNrXEgKSNXIE_SEw-iBCogGK4CaRyEclKQLUfRBaq9J36iDwZDBhgahWaGf1S5uR_NKjE2zrQIn8LY1hJgrO7_OVtdpQOBguWBPA8umlLDZWxo24TH9lbaoT&s=1
Maybe Josh freese might come back
Zac Cook he’s touring with APC now.
Chad Whitworth saw them play last night, Josh beat those drums like he was working some shit out. Great show.
Jeramy Elliott saw them in charlotte and he was amazing!
Zac Cook I prefer Jeff
Kellie Curtis Maynard doesn’t .
Scott David Chase how do you know?
Kellie Curtis because he pursued Josh to return to the band.
Zac Cook he’s been back.
Zac Cook yes
Zac Cook That would be awesome, but won’t happen unfortunately.
Brad Windhorst it already HAS happened my most misguided misinformed of dudes
Brad Windhorst They announced that he’s back
Jvred Nvthvn Wright I’m eating my words & I’m totally fine with it. Glad to see Josh back with APC, even if it is only for a partial part of the tour.
Zac Cook that would be ideal.
Zac Cook he was playing with them when I saw them 2 nights after he got kicked from the foo
Zac Cook I’m sure that ship has sailed.
Zac Cook I think Dave Grohl is doing it.
Zac Cook that would be huge!
As the drumming on Eat The Elephant while not terrible, did feel like something was missing
Zac Cook Probably why he’s out of Foo Fighters. I think they wanted someone who could commit to the band full time.
Zac Cook He’s currently touring with them.
Zac Cook I seen them two nights ago in Toronto and he was playing with them.
Zac Cook just seen him playing woth APC last week.
Zac Cook He’s been actively playing with them this entire tour.
Zac Cook I wish!
Zac Cook literally just left Sessante show, and Josh was playinf
Zac Cook they announced already that he’s back
Zac Cook he was there tonight!
Zac Cook he was with them a couple weeks ago in Huntsville, AL.
So new apc plus puscifer coming. Nice
Last album was a tough listen
Tony Cesare it was my least favorite for sure. I feel like this new one will have a different direction.
Yawwwwwn
Well they didn’t play any new songs last night
We want a lot more 4 minutes reject Tool songs. We need this
I’m ready for something new. ETE was a huge disappointment to me.
Clarenze ZaBeau as a huge fan..Im not honestly sure I heard the whole thing!
DS Cilibrasi I am too and have been since I saw them open for NIN on the Fragile tour in 2000.
I bought ETE and tried several times but I don’t think I could hum a single tune from it.
Idk how hot this take is, but I really hope it’s better than the last one…
If we could just add a little balsagna like the first two albums.

Anything but more Puscifer please.
Maybe it won’t suck!!!
Sweet
Jacob Isabel Danny Ramirez
Francisco J Gutierrez boooooneerrr
Danny Ramirez mmhmmmm
Maynard, time to focus! 🤩
Damn, that’s awesome. I kinda expected these guys to be winding down, but I’ll take it for sure.
So what. Fuck MJK. 🖕🏻
Finally!!!!
Daniel Jackson
I heard Josh Freese has some spare time…
Ramon Fieldy and Paz
Shaun Nightingale bring back the original lineup!
Ramon Fieldy ill shit a monolith if so
Ramon Fieldy Josh Freese is already back in the band and touring with them. This picture is not the current lineup. Jeff is gone
Ew
Can we have a tool album first….thanks in advance
Thankfully with Josh on drums this time, so it will be a better album already than Eat the Elephant! 😛
Emlyn Luke Foley more pace and spunk. the groove in verse of the noose comes to mind
Just saw them in Toronto last night.
Just do something similar to Thirteenth Step please.
Last one was terrible
Paweł Sikora get the lead out
Oh yeahhhh
When I heard Eat the Elephant for the first time, I was hugely disappointed. I kept on listeming and one day, when I had the right circumstances and mindset, the album just clicked and opened up and I finally understood the whole album and how great it actually was. Is it my favorite from them? Well, no, but still a great album nonetheless. Also, still, hoping that the next album would take a turn to a different direction and maybe even back to more traditional APC sound
Teemu Mäntynen I had the same reaction
Teemu Mäntynen I feel the same.
Teemu Mäntynen that’s how brainwashing works
Teemu Mäntynen What circumstances were those, and were specific drugs involved, and if so, can you share which ones? Because the album is still absolute ass to me 🤣
Ivan Stevanović I don’t do drugs, or hardly even drink. Since the circumstances were extremely personal, I won’t go into them specific. All I say, is that when you are hitting an emotional low in the face of a loss that hurts quite a bit and on that moment you hear something that fits the moment and tou start to listen to the album on a different level than on the surface, it hits you hard
Teemu Mäntynen well this was the most accurate and intelligent thing I’ve read so far…and I had to scroooooool…
Jason Merritt my thoughts exactly
Teemu Mäntynen ETE was let down kinda boring. Mer and 13th is better.
Edgar Lopez 13th Step is their magnum opus and a masterpiece which they will most likely never be able to top or even match. ETE was boring at first for me too and a huge disappointment, until came a day when it wasn’t anymore
ოპაა
Sandro Markozashvili მართლაც ოპაააა 😎😎😎

Eat the elephant was trash. Let’s get it back from their older sound
Michelle Reeve
Matt Taylor
Im wierd n stuff but like i strait up said to someone or maybe even myself the other day….whatever shinfo…i said “i feel like Maynard is brewing up something special. I just feel it. Just like when i was a child and randomly Tool Aenima showed up in my mailbox and niether my mother or her bad partner paid for it or ordered it. I partable cd playered it the fuck into my soul comute to school there and back like wow for most the year. Still toss tune through me here amd there till this day. Thank you universe
Dave Lodowski
Lol yeah people just get albums delivered that nobody bought all the time.
Jonathan Cherry fully ok with that moment i was lije 11 yrs old
Christopher Dykesie 🖤
Also maynard even you dont know you but keep on keeping on. Thank you so much for you man
Just saw them with Primus and Pucifer. The bands switched off every 3 songs. It was like being Bipolar. 3 great Primus songs where everyone was jamming, 3 to 6 Maynard songs which became unbearable, then 3 Primus songs where everything was great again. Repeat. I love Tool and Maynard’s voice, but these songs were painfully all the same . Dreary.
Yes!
Jon Steele I’d be looking forward to this
Peter Steele I didn’t know,,, good.!
Last album was poor
Declan Moriarty false
*long term fan hits his knees
“Please!!!! To all things worthy, give me the progression after thirteenth step! The build up after Mer to Step was monumental! Idgaf how you pull it off Mayne….but ffs, I love all of your art but always felt like APC was visceral and to the bone in a way that truly shows ur versatility! Now finish it!!!! It’s there! I know you have the bones!
If its more nursery rhyme xylophone style music where every song loses its momentum 3 times in 5 minutes so Maynard can suddenly sing like he’s got marbles in his mouth – ill pass. When we saw them live on the ETE tour cycle the crowd didn’t know how to react everytime they finished one of the new songs. Like a stagnant applause slowly built in the silence each time. Super strange gig.
Matt Richards-Clark I saw them on that tour and they were great!! Even the new songs were good.
Matt Richards-Clark Full of shit, I saw them on that tour at Red Rocks, crowd energy was wild throughout.
David Wachalec ayyy it’s almost like different gigs with different setlists across different countries/venues can be different
Matt Richards-Clark In other words, your anecdote is better than his?
Matt Richards-Clark I’ve seen them twice, and they were outstanding!!!!
Matt Richards-Clark we were all waiting for your much anticipated opinion so we should know whether to continue liking them or not. Oh grand exalted expert douche master.
Doyle Loflinyou’re welcome pal
Matt Richards-Clark Maynard is a boughie douchbag…
Robert Miller he really is. He lost his mind in 2007. It never came back.
Hopefully they get Josh Freese back in, EtE was a good album but his drumming was sorely missed.
Pete Oliva he’s on tour with them right now
Andyi Rollins I hope they take him into the studio. He gives a pulse to their sound like no one else.
Tammie 😻
Christy Martin omg
Oh yeaaaaah <3
Please let us hear some new heavy music from them like the older songs 🙏
This is the kind of news we need more of.
Christ I hope it’s better than ETE.
Hope it wont suck the last on
Yuval Landsberg mer de noms was gold
Yuval Landsberg I loved the last album.
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
About damn time!
Rudolph T. Maceyko
But no Paz…. Fuck yeah but awwww
Look forward to this , just hope they ramp it up a gear from last album, good to have Josh , James and jeordie back haha JJJ
Please don t another eat the elephant album. No more keyboards.
Alexis D. Contreras lol they’re gonna do whatever they want to do and you’ll listen to it.
Erin Sinard
Paz is getting older so badly…
Omg sooooo exciting!!!!!
Can we revert back to the style and temperament of the first two albums please and not try and be modern?
Went does everybody complain about the last album? TalkTalk Hourglass Eat Disillusioned Contrarian Doomed Fish Feather Get the Led out? Not every song is going to be The Noose and The Package. As a whole it actually flows great. ETE starts off with teaching you how to get through a day when that day don’t feel like a day you want to get through.. and have to. Keep doing what you’re doing mate. Everything you’ve done lately puscifer and new APC… it’s new its change its modern its dark its awesome. Let them listen to Ariana Grande if they want the same shit
Nice!
Paz is available!! Josh as well.
I hope not to be like the last one!
Yall tripping, i know the ol “bands first album is their best album” but i dont believe that shit. Just cause you listened to it more doesnt mean anything. Heres some blasphemy, I felt eat the elephant surpassed mer de noms, yeah i said it, though thirteenth step remains their best.
And as everyone mentioned having josh freese back on drums would be nice, hes just got this touch that just works for apc.
It will be titled “Apologizing For The Elephant.”
Roy J. Smith IV This is very, very true. The next tool album needs to follow that trend too.
Love APC but their last album sucked elephant balls.
Yuk
Dasel Syson
Holly Wood
Yesssssssss
I hope they go back to their roots. Eat the elephant was my least favorite
Yeaaaahhhhh
Why did everyone hate Eat the Elephant? Serious question? I didn’t LOVE it, but it was still good in my opinion
Alistar Sebastian Kaster this!
Alistar Sebastian Kaster I think people find it way too soft and want more rock. I don’t hate it but was a little disapointed with it.
Jocelyn Vezina Ah that actually makes sense. I know Maynard fans in general are always wanting his next projects/albums to be more rocking than they are. I agree though, it would be nice for the next album to have more intensity like Mer de Noms or even 13th Step had.
Alistar Sebastian Kaster absolutely! 🤗 I want more of Billy’s writting and Maynard reacting to it. Not the other was around. If it makes sense.
Jocelyn Vezina That actually does make sense, cuz I’m a fan of the way Billy writes music… Especially when he takes his time with it.
Please just no piano.
I love TOOL, but I dig A Perfect Circle and Puscifer more so
Fadi Zarka ohhhhh shiiiiiiit
The first two efforts are two of my favorite albums, I don’t know what happened with the last, but it had no magic to it.
Cire Zednem
Hell Yeah!!!
Adam McCavery-Smith
Lauren Ryall-Waite

This is the first time I’m reading g comments people don’t like eat the elephant…. It’s such an awesome album
Jason V Mannello I love it !!
Jason V Mannello I really like it, too. Personally, 13th step is my favorite, but that’s the beauty in music, something for everyone.
Cathy Kraynak Moser
The current tour is awesome!!!
I know I heard him say it on Thursday
Sweet! Put the piano away, Billy! 🤓
James Flagg Let the dude create HIS music how he wants.
Let a guy have an opinion on something that doesn’t really matter.
Hope it’s better than the last turd they released
Bring Paz back. 😋👍
Kate Midjord 😃
It’s about damn time
Hopefully way better than the last.
Omg best news EVER
I don’t think APC is active enough for josh to join as a permanent member. They’ll likely be on another hiatus after this tour.
🖤
Can someone please tell Maynard that his one trick pony act for each and every song is thoroughly exhausted?
Oo look at me I’m quiet whispering the verse, now I’m screaming the chorus! Aren’t my lyrics so edgelord! I mean “prison sex,” come on I’m like soooo edgy!
How do you like my one octave range?
Yes!
Good stuff… Hopefully its more like the first album.
I can’t wait
Billy has heard all the negativity about the last album. I’m sure they will avoid that sound for the next album.
Hopefully better than his last effort. The first three albums were so damn good!
Cameron Cole
As long as it’s not another ashes divide album
Tim Hernandez free hate
Tim Hernandez yeah, they’ll sure please you.
Love Tool but APC is hit or miss for me and can’t stand Puscifer. Eat the Elephant was a huge step back imo so hoping this is much better.
I hope it’s better than the last one.
Roy Antonsen
Fantastic! They have made some amazing albums

I don’t really have anything bad to say about ete album, it’s not my favourite apc album and quite different from mer de nom, but it grew on me and I like it when bands try different approaches. It can get boring if they put the same kind of thing out time after time, so really looking forward to new music. You only have to listen to Billy’s other music to know it’s not gonna be a straight up rock album, and I like you never really know what you’re gonna get with them.
Dobbs Bob 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Yes get rid of the piano
Kabir Singh get rid of people who dont like piano IMO
Kabir Singh no way
Enrique Martinez Favila
They played a song I’ve never heard during their performance with Primus and Puscifer that was pretty awesome sounding so I’m hoping this is gonna be good. Eat the elephant was abysmal. Not a fan at all. I tried to listen to it this morning again just can’t do it. That being said 13th step was amazing and the first album is still a banger. I feel like the last good thing I heard them do was the song passive.
I miss Paz Lenchantin
his screams are some of the best
Gihan Amarasinghe
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I didn’t love the new song they played on the sessanta tour
Yaaaaay!!! ALL their stuff is so good. Yes even ETE.
I really hope it is better than the last. The first two were gold
So they aren’t trying to break Tool’s 13 year record?
Last album was trash
Hopefully it’s nothing like the last one.
Storm Gonzalez I LOVED Eat the Elephant
Marc DiPinto Same
Storm Gonzalez I didn’t hate it, but yeah lol
Josh Ramos I just want a continuation of the first two perfect albums.
Storm Gonzalez I felt the same way
Storm Gonzalez the last one was great wtf you talking bout? Sure it’s not as mainstream success as the others but it does grow on you
Kevin Tatum nah even the title was wack.
Then you aren’t a true fan are ya
Kevin Tatum I’m a fan but I also know what I like and don’t like. Same as with other bands I’m a fan of I don’t just love everything they put out just because they’re my favorite bands.
Let’s hope it’s a rock record
Call Josh Freese ASAP
Miguel Alfoya !!!!!!!!
Bring Josh back and see what Paz is up to. A mer de noms pt 2 would be 🔥
Brandon Koger or keep developing the sound and invite them back for a song or 2 and keep it original and fresh
Brandon Koger Josh Freese is a current member of the band.
Neil McCarty he’s touring with them right now but he left the band in 2012
Brandon Koger and he came back. He is back in as their official permanent drummer. A Google search could have told you this.
Æryn Sinwell I did Google because I couldn’t remember the year he left. It said he rejoined the band for their spring tour last year, didnt see anything about it being permanent. Hopefully he’s on the next album and not just a touring member
Brandon Koger at this point the idea of mer de moms 2 being anywhere as good as the 1rst is impossible
Daniel Kytta and that’s why a part 2 is not happening
Brandon Koger this. Its not a perfect circle. Paz was there for his 60th birthday concert. Its a shame
I never got around to giving their last one a proper listen, was it any good?
Laurence Cooper
I just got ETE on cd. Im going to give it another chance and have it on constant playback while doing chores around the house. I originally got it digitally but only listened to the whole album less than 10 times. I didn’t get the same vibes as the previous albums and as if Im listening to a while different band. Since Im on an APC/Billy Howerdel binge recently Im going to give ETE another chance and maybe Ill hear something different now from the first times I’ve listened ti the whole album a few years ago. Can’t wait for this new album!
Brian Welter
Monica Welter this makes me happy.
But we want more Tool first..
I am not excited 😒
I’m not even excited, which is unfortunate because Mer de Noms is in the top 10 best of all time for me
rip tool
Josh Freese, will be the drummer on this album, and I am beyond excited
Well, their original drummer did have some free time.
Nick Nick 🥳
Jimmy Holifield wicked! Hopefully back to Mer De Noms roots, more guitar needed!
If they can go back to their sound on those first two albums, this is great. If it’s going to be anything like their last album… no thanks
I’m a huge fan

Paz
Please make it heavier rock or anything heavier. I understand you have the greatest singer alive sine Chris Cornell but please no more soft music
Sucking…..can never do it a perfect gankers….you suck…..suckballs
Man, I am still waiting on a second ashes divide album
Well this makes me happy 😁
Sido Dal Pozzolo
Craig Taylor-Broad holy shit I’m excited now 😬
where Is Josh
I hope and pray they use the same formula as the first 2 albums……..
Topper Harley
Hope it’s better than the last one. Eat The Elephant was far below their capabilities.
Sooooo, 15 years or so before we heae ir? … cool!
I’m a Tool guy. I’ve heard MAYBE 3 APC songs I’ve liked. The rest do NOTHING for me
Dave Phillips thanks for the update
Dave Phillips 13th and MER were their best. ETE was boring. Even fear was a bit better than ete.
Dave Phillips music is subjective man. To each their own.
Peyton Simas
Bring back the riffage!
Let’s get a new live Tool album please.
Derek Wenz Joshua Brooks
…
13th step 2nd movement?
Maynard just cannot sit still can he!? New Puscifer and new APC albums as well as the incredible Sessanta tour! Plus managing his Vineyard/ restraurant. Maynard is a freaking legend!
Shawna Wood indeed!!
Shawna Wood wait, new pusifer?
Shawna Wood Wait, new Puscifer?
Shawna Wood exactly !!!!!
Shawna Wood when he isnt hitting on 14 yr old’s yeah he is a busy guy.
Troy Matanich is there a source for this?
ᚾᛟᚨᚺ ᛒᚢᛖᛚᛚ allegations of course. But there is plenty out there in this subject and some is quite disturbing.
https://toiletovhell.com/we-need-to-talk-about-these-maynard-james-keenan-allegations/
He will be back!! He said it at the show in Philly
Seth Ackerson
Kenn
That’s fucking grate but how about a new tool album for fuck sake like you said after the fear innolceum tour that was going to be worked on
These days I get confused whose in perfect circle, tool and smashing pumpkins
George Nikkelson same.
Nathan Ainger 🤣🤣🤣
Jesse Mata TOOLs lineup hasn’t changed in almost 30 years.
And the album name is The square root of Pi
Surprising number of commenters need to get the lead out
This makes me happy…
They will get two done before the next tool album
Oh my fuck.
James Iha is back???
Is that the guy from the smashing pumpkins
Mark Roy the guy that’s been in APC for the last 15 years?
Jarod Barbuto I’d say more like 20. He toured during Thirteenth Step days.
Mark Roy James Iha. Yes
Mark Roy yes, James Iha is in both bands
Mark Roy yes. James Iha.
Mark Roy yes
Mark Roy James iha is a legend, but imagine Maynard and billy corgan, and billy howerdel, 3 bald rock legends
How about you just get back to what really works TOOL and stop pussy footin around. With this music that is just stagnant
Isn’t that Asian guy in the smashing pumpkins?
Josh RichardsonThat “Asian guy” is James Iha and has been in A Perfect Curcle since 2003. He’s also in Smashing Pumpkins.
Andrew J Jackson short answer would have Been “yes”
Micheal Craigyes
Andrew J Jackson never knew he was in A Perfect Circle?!
Rob Shattuck if I remember correctly, I think Jeordie White A.K.A Twiggy Ramirez was in the band for a short time too.
I feel bad not knowing James was in APC as well….
Josh Richardson yes James iha was/is in pumkins
Well that’s awesome
Wait I thought Tool was working on a new album?
JD Martin well considering he has 3 bands he’s always busy with something
Robert Donavan this is true. The last story I read was this was going to be the main focus so they don’t take 7 years to complete the next TOOL album
JD Martin The only reason the last Tool album took so long to come out was because of roughly 10 years of litigation. That won’t be a problem this time as long as they don’t get sucked into another lawsuit.
JD Martin yes Tool is working on a new album and it will be ready in about 15 years! 6 new songs 3 that are good and 3 that sucks 😉😃
Carlos Car Low Videla in your opinion
Bryson Burk
I ❤️ APC
Maynard needs to create, and if the guys from Tool are taking their time putting together new music, I welcome new music from APC and Puscifer 🤷🏼♂️
ETE is fantastic.
Yes
No Josh, no dice!
Dominic Kit Mikol Jeff is a killer drummer.
Media: https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia0.giphy.com%2Fmedia%2Fv1.Y2lkPTEyMGMwMTQ3dWJhaHhtZTNjZnN0cGxvaWI2YTBmZzhheHl4cnppazdtN2p1Nm1uNiZlcD12MV9naWZzX3NlYXJjaCZjdD1n%2FLxO3cmE6qc0XS%2Fgiphy.gif&h=AT3XMMcTyR1yj0ZhTmgxjraB4PV2tBO3luZ5F-uftjeFp6hbxfR4P12qtMD99lazOMweH7u11u3h9aRgydcOgEERY79fPo7GYrPd0EqUgn1TYAC2ScaoYoieldf1NzDc&s=1
Dominic Kit Mikol comparing the two I’d say Josh for sure. All respect to Jeff though but all their killer shit was with Josh.
This is great news!❤️

Adele Irvine
Sweet
Kris Chapman
Greg Dennington that’d be pretty dope
God i hope it’s better then the last eat the shit album. Or that’s what it should have been called lol. I’ve loved APC since I was a kid when they first broke out but. The last album i just couldn’t force myself to like any of the tracks except for so long, and thanks for all the fish.
Can they not? Horrible music
Hopefully we get back to some of the heavy guitar and bass
Danny Casanova agreed but I’ll take anything they put out
Danny Casanova yeah, and no more weird breakdowns.
Daniel Freeman I thought that was Perry Farrell’s problem. 😆
Danny Casanova Amen to that sentiment!
Kirsty
I misread that as Howie Mandel
We should hear it around 2035
PLEASE
Fuck yea. The fist album was a masterpiece
Marcelo Alaniz
Hope it’s true
Michael Haynes
Devin Haynes hell yeah!! Hopefully it’ll be a good one
💖
Hopefully, he writes more with his Les Paul instead of the piano. I like everything they do but prefer their more heavier side than the melodic piano stuff
Nice!
Saweeeet!
Well, Josh Freese’s schedule has freed up!
The Oilers one yesterday and this news dropped yesterday, are you trying to ruin my weekend?
David, David
Seth Kelley yay!
Jen Hoover
Andrew Hoover I hope this is true!
Hell yeah!!! I will definitely be looking forward to anything MJK does. If it’s not TOOL, its A Perfect Circle, and then there’s Puscifer. He tends to fill the gaps perfectly between the three.
I’d rather have a new Ashes Divide album at this point
Oh, cool, another disappointing album from Maynard.
Please Tour Australia!!
Why
The last album was awful
but why?
“MORE de noms”
I’d love a new Ashes Divide album by Billy. First one is a MASTERPIECE.
If you aren’t familiar with it, check it out. 🙂
I can’t wait ! On the other hand .. my selfish side wants the new “leaner “ TOOL ALBUM to come out first Danny has been teasing lol
R/aperfectcirclejerk
had no idea james iha was in this band wth
Cameron 🥹
Jenn Holman yes I saw this great news 😎
Yes people. James is in Smashing Pumpkins
We NEED more ASHES DIVIDE!! It’s been 18 years!! Need a follow up to the greatest album ever.
David Barnes Billy released another album under his own name not to long ago called What Normal Was, it’s really fucking good. If like his Ashes stuff u will definitely like this album.
David Enriquez yeah, I bought it. Only a couple songs I really liked. He played one AD song on the tour, but it was cool to see Danny Lohner with them.
🤔….i don’t know what to think…… No ? …
But will it suck?
After hearing the last album please do
Is Billy going to tour on his solo record? That was a great album
saw them Thursday night in Toronto they still got it
Excellent!!!! Can’t wait!!
But won’t that conflict with Tool? 😞
Myles Tracey Nah, Maynard comes in last and does his thing based on how the music makes him feel, the band is still working through what the next album will sound like.
After seeing Sessanta I am now 💯 sure a perfect circle is in my top 3 fav ever bands.
Didn’t like the last one.
Can’t wait!
achinga, Iha? 😮
Machiko San
New APC and new Tool? Possibly released around the same time? Nice
They need to bring back Paz.
I actually do love Eat the Elephant and listen to it more than any of their other records. It’s fantastic! I can’t wait to hear anything they produce.
The last album was fcking horrible
Game changer. Almost started my own called perfect oval. Would have been horrific as I don’t play any instruments and pretty sure I can’t sing.
What bout a new ashes divide album billy
Im excited! I’ll forever love “Mer de Noms” and “Thirteenth Step”. But “Eat The Elephant” was the cat’s ass 🤮
Last album was amazing. Hope to hear something just as good.
Hope it’s better than the last album. They really went in a weird direction with that album.
Eat the Elephant was a great album.
Jen Massicotte
Sorry Jeff, Josh Freese is back to fix your drumming
Yesssssssssss
Tool 2.0
Gimme da Paz
Yas😍 Please
I hope it’s better than Eat the Elephant and I feel SO BAD saying that.
Diego Gamboa
Paul
Brandon Speedie
Will it be a fucking lullaby like the previous work?
Don’t we have enough suffering RN? 😞
I just left their show and they didn’t say anything about it, new Puscifer in the fall though!
Richard Hoy 😍
Yay!! Awesome sauce!! Can’t wait!!
Erica Battaglia
Let’s go Iha!
YASS
🤙🪖👮♂️🙏🇺🇸
Jesse Kohn
I should be more excited for this, but the last album, sounding more like Puscifer/Ashes Divide, really has me lukewarm on this. Give me something the sound and calibre of the first 2 albums and I’ll be excited.
Frankie Sunshine 😁😁
Jenny GoslingMY DREAMS HAVE COME TRUE
I like
Mandeigh Maree
The Ghost Ninja
Hayley Marie Hoy 🤩
Now this will be awesome
Where’s Josh 😣
🔥
Really ?

About farkin time ⏲️
Okay… But will it be like Mer De Nom?
Billy can sing too
Bring back paz lenchantin again
Jeff has been more than fine, but they’ve gotta bring Josh back behind the kit for this. Shit, get Paz back on bass too.
Can it please not be boring this time
Hope they light the synthesizer they used on the last album on fire. Shit was bad.
i’d love to hear them with Deftones Chino on a whole album tbh :O
They need original line up the first 2 albums were awesome 13th step was badass
Yesssss
Paz as guest, that would be good!!
Once you start dressing in suits and ties that’s it for me. I will not listen to your music.
[SNOOZE]
Derek Crist
Josh is available for drums.
Rusty Reens he’s already back, seen him playing with them the other night 🤝
Kayla Valentina
Hopefully better than the last one!
Cool but I hope Billy continues his solo work. His last album was amazing.
Oh Billy Howerdel your talent and beauty go on for infinity.
This comment section is why Maynard says the band’s fans are insufferable.
Tyler Evans
Just be better than eat the elephant… The albums release order is best to worst.
Who cares?
With Josh and Paz?
OMG! Yes! Yes! YES!!!!
*internal screaming intensifies*
I thought Tool was working on new shit? Maynard must be full of idears!
I’ll see it when I believe it
Blake Cech
Hell yeah
Oh, they call it work. No crime investigations into the theft of my music. Not the top of the crime DOJ even give two craps. Anyway, f#ck humans.
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I didn’t get into the last one. 1st were the best
Sven Fischer
Suuuuuuuper
What a trash band
Eat the Elephant was a gorgeous feast for the ears
ETE unfortunately reminded me of what the smashing pumpkins are doing; which was essentially alienate their entire fan base. That album is not it, and it absolutely pales in comparison to their earlier work. Social media sites and magazines are quick to bring up the anniversaries for MDN and Thirteenth Step, but I have never seen them praise ETE every single year since its release. The song “Thomas” is better than that entire album.
Jackie Vela
Andrew
How about tool?
Where the fucks twiggy
🩵
As long as they don’t let the elephant out of the room! 🤣

Amazing!
Are you serious? ETE is a masterpiece!! The vocal performance alone is simply stunning!!
Yaaaaaaaay!!!!
Vert
Iha isn’t touring w/ Sessanta 2.0 how come?
Last album was growth, it was melodic, less hard guitar wise, but I liked it, but always hoping for something different and fresh. Hope it is a release this year.
