Former Skrape vocalist Billy Keeton has officially introduced his new project Skrapegoat after legal issues prevented his planned reunion of the influential nü-metal outfit.
Earlier this year, Keeton announced plans to revive Skrape and return to the stage, with the response from longtime fans highlighting the continued interest in the band’s music. However, in March, it was revealed that the reunion plans had been met with a cease and desist from individuals connected to the band’s rights. Keeton later confirmed that the objections came from original members of Skrape.
After months of attempting to resolve the situation, Keeton has now decided to move forward under a new name with a new lineup.
In a statement announcing Skrapegoat, the project was described as the next evolution of Keeton’s creative journey, built around his signature vocals while continuing to embrace the music fans have connected with over the years.
Keeton commented:
“When I announced this project, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. The response reminded me how much these songs still mean to people, and that meant everything to me. Once it became clear certain people wanted to take the focus away from the music, we had a decision to make. We could look backward, or build something new. We chose to keep moving forward, and I’m even more excited about SKRAPEGOAT than when this all started.”
The band emphasized that Skrapegoat is not intended to replace the legacy of Skrape, but instead represents a continuation of Keeton’s musical path while creating a new chapter with original material.
The project will use Skrapegoat as its official home for future music, touring announcements, and updates.
