Former Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell is nearing the finish line on his long-awaited debut solo album, with the singer currently wrapping up the final recordings in Los Angeles.
Bell has been developing his solo career for several years and has released several singles along the way. However, he now says the forthcoming album will feature 10 completely new songs, with the previously released material largely being left off the main tracklist.
Speaking recently with Rock Talks, Bell revealed that the record currently has 11 songs in various stages of completion, with only a couple of tracks left to finish before he begins shopping the album to potential labels.
“It’s 10 new songs — completely new songs. I think ‘Savages’ will be part [of it], maybe like a bonus track.”
Bell explained that he deliberately avoided restricting the album to a single genre or recreating the sound of any one of his previous bands. Instead, the project is intended to bring together elements from throughout his career, including Fear Factory, G/Z/R, Ascension Of The Watchers, City Of Fire, and his time working with Ministry.
“I wanted to do with my solo career — I did not wanna focus on one particular band or one particular genre.”
The vocalist described the music as heavy, groovy, dark and moody, while emphasizing that listeners will still be able to recognize his signature voice throughout the material.
Bell also hopes to secure a record label to handle the album’s eventual release. While independently releasing singles has allowed him to remain active, he admitted that handling everything himself has been demanding and said label support could potentially help with promotion and touring.
As for when fans can actually expect to hear the completed album, Bell remains hopeful that it will arrive soon, with the immediate priority being to finish the recordings and begin shopping the project.
There could also be some familiar faces involved. Bell confirmed that he is currently speaking with a couple of potential guest musicians, describing them as “old friends,” though he isn’t ready to reveal their identities just yet.
