BYZANTINE Unveil Claymation Video for “Harbinger”

Byzantine have brought their track “Harbinger” to life with a meticulously crafted claymation music video. The visuals were sculpted by Adrian Venti, while vocalist Chris Ojeda shared insight into the creative process:

“This video has taken months to create. We wanted to continue our tradition of handmade artwork for this album. My daughter Mallory and I wrote the story, hired Adrian Venti from Mexico to hand-build every clay scene, and brought in Holly Grayson with Screaming Butterfly Entertainment (Justinian Code, The Cicada Tree, The Agonies) to edit it. The video tells the story of a boy who, after losing his father, searches for meaning, is tempted by greed and selfishness through a cunning wolf, and is ultimately saved by a single act of kindness toward a lone raven. Ravens never forget.

Mallory and I are fans of all things stop-motion—movies like Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline, James and the Giant Peach, and music videos from Peter Gabriel, Björk, Tool, and Primus. We modeled the boy after my six-year-old son, Henry. I hope fans appreciate the labor, symbolism, and creativity poured into the story, the claymation, and the editing. We wanted to push the creative boundaries while telling a story about a boy striving to find his place.”

Byzantine released their latest album Harbingers this past June and are gearing up for a new run of shows in support of it.
