West Virginia groove metal veterans Byzantine have dropped a brand-new single, “The Unobtainable Sleep”, from their upcoming album Harbingers. The band’s seventh full-length effort is set to arrive June 13th via Metal Blade Records.
Brian Henderson (guitar/vocals) broke down the inspiration behind the song, which features a guest guitar solo from Russian progressive metal guitarist Andrey Gadzhibalaev.
Henderson explained:
“This song title is a dark and poetic definition of death. OJ had a few riffs laying around that were inspired by Extol, Carcass, and Fear Factory, and they fit perfectly together to craft this tune. We specifically wrote an extended solo section to allow our friend from Russia, Andrey Gadzhibalaev, a chance to perform a beautiful guest guitar solo.”
Harbingers will be the band’s first new album since 2017’s The Cicada Tree.
