A heartwarming story out of Ottawa, Ontario has captured the attention of the metal community after hospital staff helped make a patient’s dream come true by bringing a live heavy metal concert directly to him.
According to reports, 27-year-old metal fan Tim Berry, who faces significant medical challenges, had long hoped to experience a live metal show. However, his health conditions made attending a concert impossible.
In an effort to grant that wish, staff at Bruyère Health in Ottawa worked together to organize a special performance inside the hospital.
The event was made possible with assistance from local venue Dominion Tavern, which helped coordinate a free performance from Ottawa-based power metal band The Scepter.
Rather than taking place at a traditional venue, the concert was held in a boardroom inside the healthcare facility, allowing Berry and other patients to safely experience a live music event.
Hospital staff fully embraced the occasion, helping Berry get concert-ready by painting his nails and dressing him in a metal shirt before the performance.
Several other patients staying at the facility were also able to attend and enjoy the show.
Members of The Scepter described the experience as an emotional one.
Guitarist Josh Collins reflected on the performance, stating:
“We were happy to have our sunglasses on.”
The event also had a profound impact on hospital staff who helped organize it.
Bruyère Health clinical chaplain Roshene Lawson shared the emotional response following the concert.
“I had nurses coming up to me after and hugging me and tearing up and saying, ‘I’m so glad Tim got to have this.’”
The unique event highlights the power of music and the lengths healthcare workers will go to create meaningful experiences for patients facing difficult circumstances.
For Berry, what began as a dream of attending a heavy metal concert became a reality thanks to the efforts of hospital staff, local supporters, and a band willing to bring the show directly to him.
