CANDLEMASS Celebrate 40 Years With New EP ‘Black Star,’ Drop “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” Cover Video

Long-running doom metal outfit Candlemass are ringing in their 40th anniversary with a brand-new four-song EP titled Black Star, out today, May 09th. Alongside the release, the Swedish legends have unveiled a music video for their cover of Black Sabbath’s iconic 1973 single “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.”

The video pays tribute to the band that shaped much of Candlemass’s sonic identity and captures the slow-burning intensity of the original track with a crushing doom-laden twist. Founding bassist and former vocalist Leif Edling commented on the decision to cover the song, stating:

“‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ needs no introduction, one of the best songs ever recorded if you ask me. Maybe not the obvious choice, but it’s been a dream for me to do it one day and here it is! Our rendition of ‘S.B.S.’ (Mass Bloody Mass?)”

Black Star is the band’s first release since 2022’s Sweet Evil Sun, and the EP stands as a celebratory nod to their monumental legacy in doom metal. The tracklist and additional details surrounding the EP are expected to be revealed soon.
