CARRION VAEL Announce Fifth Album ‘Slay Utterly,’ Share First Music Video

Carrion Vael are returning with their fifth studio album, Slay Utterly, set for release on January 16th via Unique Leader Records. The melodic death metal outfit continues their fascination with true crime, exploring the lives of notorious serial killers and their victims throughout the album. The first single and music video, “19(fucking)78”, focuses on the Hillside Stranglers, the duo who terrorized Los Angeles in the late 1970s.

The album opens with “19(fucking)78”, blending technical guitar work, slam riffs, and clean vocals, while examining themes of control, nature versus nurture, and obsession.

Other highlights include:

• “Truth or Consequences” – Tells the story of David Parker Ray, the Toy Box Killer, known for kidnapping women in his remote New Mexico bunker.
• “1912” – A theatrical, progressive track recounting the unsolved axe murders of Villisca, Iowa, in June 1912.
• “30 on 9” – Fast and aggressive, the song dives into the mystery of Jack the Ripper and his September 30th murders.
• “40 Echoes Upon the Parlor” – Guitarist Ryan Kuder shines on riffs and leads while clean vocals highlight tales of smaller axe murders, including Lizzie Borden.
• “Lord of 74” – Opens with piano and dripping water before erupting into a story of Joseph Kallinger, the Philadelphia-based murderer who believed God commanded him to kill.
• “Bisection 47” – Explores the infamous 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia.
• “Black Chariot” – Originally from 2020’s God Killer, this re-recorded track continues the album’s relentless pace with snarling vocals and lead guitar work.
