Post-rock outfit Caspian have released their new single “Far Country,” accompanied by a short film directed by Luke Webster Brown and Elijah Sussman. The track serves as the second preview of the band’s upcoming self-titled album, their first full-length studio release in six years.
‘Caspian’ is scheduled to arrive on October 16 through Wax Bodega, marking the group’s next chapter with a record that appears to embrace a more stripped-down approach to songwriting and instrumentation.
Guitarist and keyboardist Philip Jamieson discussed the creative process behind “Far Country,” explaining that the band deliberately pared back its usual sound while working on the track.
“Letting everything but our distortion pedals collect dust for ‘Far Country’ was initially a little frightening, but very quickly became fun as hell. Stripping not only the song structures themselves, but also the tools used to make them, down to only what was absolutely necessary felt vital for this one, which we hope is emblematic of our current ethos and the record in general.”
With the new single, Caspian offer another glimpse of the direction behind their forthcoming album, arriving next week.
