Charlie Benante will be temporarily stepping away from his live duties with Anthrax and Pantera after suffering an injury to his right hand.
The veteran drummer shared the news on June 20th, revealing that he has been ordered by his doctor to sit out several upcoming shows in order to allow the injury to properly heal. His absence is currently expected to run through July 4th.
In a statement, Benante said:
“I wanted to let everyone know that I unfortunately injured my right hand and, following my doctor’s orders, I’ll be sitting out a handful of shows from June 20 through July 4 to give it the proper time to heal.
I’m incredibly grateful that Darby Todd will be stepping in behind the kit for these dates and helping keep the shows rolling while I recover. I’m already focused on getting healthy and look forward to being back on the road soon. Thank you all for the support and understanding.”
Stepping in for the affected dates will be Darby Todd, whose résumé includes work with Devin Townsend, The Darkness, and numerous other artists.
Benante had been pulling double duty throughout Europe this month, performing with both Pantera and Anthrax on their respective touring schedules. His temporary departure comes amid a busy stretch of European and UK dates for both bands.
At present, Benante is expected to return to the road following his recovery, with Todd helping to keep the scheduled performances moving forward in the meantime.
