Chevelle Drummer Confirms Heavier Follow-Up To “Rabbit Hole” and Distances Band From “Point #1” Vinyl Reissue

Chevelle has confirmed that their next single, “Jim Jones (Cowards Pt. 2),” will follow their recently released track “Rabbit Hole (Cowards Pt. 1).” This first single from their upcoming tenth studio album is just a taste of what’s to come, with the full album tentatively slated for an August release, though no exact date has been set.

In a new interview with Loudwire Nights, the band shared that “Jim Jones (Cowards Pt. 2)” will be “a lot heavier” than their previous track. The band also touched on a long-standing issue regarding the upcoming Record Store Day reissue of their 1999 debut album, Point #1. Chevelle made it clear that they have no involvement with this reissue, which has been a contentious topic due to a long-running ownership dispute.

Originally released in May 1999 on Squint Entertainment, Point #1 faced a tumultuous history. The label’s power struggles led to legal battles over the album’s rights, and Squint eventually shut down in 2001. Warner Records later acquired many of Squint’s assets, though Chevelle claims the album rights were sold off again without their involvement.

Drummer Sam Loeffler clarified during the interview that the band had no knowledge of the reissue and had no control over the situation:

“We actually have nothing to do with that at all. We didn’t even know what was happening. The person that owns that, we don’t even know who that is.”

He also discussed the ongoing issues, revealing that one of the album’s previous owners claimed the band owed $700,000 for the album, despite the actual production cost being only $17,000. Loeffler emphasized that Chevelle has had no involvement in the reissue and believes that they are not being compensated properly.

The Point #1 reissue, set for release on April 12th, will be limited to 1,800 copies on lemonade-colored vinyl, with Squint/Curb listed as the responsible parties. Last summer, Loeffler mentioned that Chevelle had discussed re-recording Point #1 with their current label, Alchemy Recordings, to regain some control over the music. However, it remains unclear whether those plans will come to fruition.
