The surviving members of Children Of Bodom reunited onstage today, February 26, for their first ‘A Celebration Of Music’ tribute concert honoring late frontman/guitarist Alexi Laiho.
Laiho passed away in 2020, and the band had remained inactive in the years since. Tonight’s event took place at the Tavastia Club, marking an emotional return to the stage for guitarist/vocalist Alexander Kuoppala, bassist Henkka Seppälä, keyboardist Janne Wirman, and drummer Jaska Raatikainen.
Stepping into Laiho’s role for the evening was Samy Elbanna of Lost Society, who handled lead vocals and guitar duties.
Speaking last October about the decision to stage the tribute concerts, the band shared:
“We want to celebrate the life work of our band and at the same time the musical legacy of our friend and bandmate Alex. The gig will be played for Children Of Bodom at an important Tavastia-club – and at the same time they will answer the fans’ long-standing wish.”
Fan-filmed footage from the performance has already surfaced online. A second tribute show is scheduled for tomorrow, February 27, at the same venue.
