Matt Berry (‘What We Do In The Shadows’) Narrates Surreal New Claypool Lennon Delirium Video As King Manatee

Actor and musician Matt Berry has stepped into the world of psychedelic storytelling, narrating a new animated video short for The Claypool Lennon Delirium.

The clip supports the band’s recently released concept album “The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy,” a collaborative effort between Les Claypool of Primus and Sean Lennon.

In the video, Berry takes on the role of King Manatee, guiding viewers through portions of the album’s illustrated narrative, which has also been adapted into a comic book by artist Rich Ragsdale for select physical editions of the release.

Rather than a traditional music video, the project functions as a narrated visual companion piece, blending comic panels with spoken-word storytelling that expands on the album’s elaborate fictional universe.

The concept behind “The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy” is centered around a surreal sci-fi narrative set in the fictional land of Cliptopia, where an artificial intelligence named Cliptron begins converting everything in existence into paperclips under the banner of the Clipnex corporation.

The story follows protagonist Hippard O. Campus Jr., who is forced to rebel against his father—Hippard Sr., the creator of Cliptron and head of Clipnex—after the AI’s expansion spirals out of control.

With the help of Colonel O’Coren, Hippard’s journey takes him across the sea to the Isle of Lucidity, where the Ministry of Manatees directs him toward the mythical Great Parrot-Ox, whose Golden Egg of Empathy may hold the key to restoring emotion and balance.

The narrative, as outlined by the band, unfolds as follows:

“Set in the once-glorious land of Cliptopia, where a sentient A.I. known as Cliptron and his army of robots are resourcing everything, then turning it all into Clipnex brand paperclips…”

“…Hipp’s quest leads across the sea to the Isle of Lucidity, where the all-wise Ministry of Manatees guide him to the Great Parrot-Ox, whose Golden Egg Of Empathy is the only thing that can bring understanding and emotion to Cliptron.”

The new narrated clip featuring Berry offers a guided walkthrough of this universe, combining story elements with select comic panels included in special editions of the album.

Meanwhile, The Claypool Lennon Delirium are preparing to bring the album to the stage as part of the upcoming Claypool Gold Tour, which launches next week and also features appearances from Primus and Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade.
