Coal Chamber drummer Mikey “Bug” Cox has provided another update on his health, opening up about his battle with stage 3 cancer and the surgery he is preparing to undergo to address complications from his treatment.
Cox stunned fans earlier this year when he revealed that he had privately battled stage 3 cancer after being diagnosed on April 1st, 2025. Speaking with We Were Loud Once, the drummer confirmed that he is currently cancer-free but still dealing with the aftermath of the disease and its treatment.
“As of right now, I’m cancer-free, but I do need to have another surgery in the next month to put the rest of my insides back together, ’cause right now I have things that are rerouted.”
Cox detailed the aggressive course of treatment he underwent, which included five weeks of radiation and five months of chemotherapy.
“By the end of it, it was pure hell. I was down to 152 pounds. I could barely walk. It was brutal.”
After treatment successfully reduced the tumor, Cox underwent a five-and-a-half-hour surgery in January and later received the news he had hoped for.
“The test came back and they said they got all of it; all the margins were good.”
Despite being cancer-free, Cox said he continues to experience side effects from the treatment, including numbness in his hands and feet, joint pain, and reduced stamina.
“My feet are numb all the time, and my hands and my joints and all that stuff. So the last two shows we just played were an adventure.”
While the recovery process remains ongoing, Cox said things are improving little by little.
“We’re getting there slowly, and every show gets better.”
Coal Chamber were recently forced to withdraw from this year’s Louder Than Life festival due to Cox requiring additional surgery.
