The legendary (and animated) metal band Cold Slither, originally featured in the 1985 episode of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, will be making their East Coast live debut. In collaboration with Hasbro and Reigning Phoenix Music, a lineup of seasoned metal musicians came together to bring the iconic cartoon band to life, including recording a self-titled debut album and performing live for the first time in July at San Diego Comic-Con.
Gus Ríos (Gruesome, ex-Malevolent Creation) stepped into the role of Zartan, the band’s vocalist and bassist, while Ross Sewage (Exhumed, Ghoul) performed as Torch, Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome) as Ripper, and Andy Selway (KMFDM) as Buzzer.
The band’s first East Coast performance is set for October 11th at Gramercy Theatre in New York, NY. Speaking in character as Zartan, Ríos teased:
“Well, well, it seems as though there are several potential recruits who have a desire to join our small but elite society of Dreadnoks… This time in New York City! Our services are once again called upon by Cobra Commander and Reigning Phoenix Music to melt minds with Cold Slither! So be it, my Dreadnoks and I will see you all October 11th… Come prepared… Cobraaaaa!!”
The original G.I. Joe episode “Cold Slither” revolved around Cobra creating the band to subliminally influence American youth, a storyline that has now inspired this fully realized live metal project.
