Crown The Empire have returned with another new single, unveiling the music video for “violet” following the band’s dramatic creative revamp earlier this year.
The newly released track follows June’s “Raw,” which marked a significant new chapter for the group, now operating as a duo. Zach Jones handled production on the latest offering, while B.K. Barone directed the accompanying music video.
The band have also shared some insight into the song’s subject matter, describing “violet” as an exploration of a toxic, controlling relationship built around manipulation, isolation and possessiveness.
Crown The Empire offered the following explanation of the track:
“‘violet’ illustrates a toxic relationship. When someone completely isolates you, brainwashes you into believing you’re a horrible person and that they’re the only one who really cares about you, you slowly start to lose who you are. It’s an obsessive, possessive kind of love rooted in the mentality of ‘if I can’t have you, no one can.’ You’re being controlled by someone who demands absolute devotion and threatens destruction at the thought of losing you. It’s about recognizing how dangerous that kind of love can become, but somehow still finding yourself drawn to the very thing that’s destroying you.”
