Brazilian death metal outfit Crypta have entered a new chapter with the release of their latest single, “A Portrait Of Decay.” The band have also accompanied the track with a new music video.
Recorded in June at Project Zero Studio in Belgium, the song arrives ahead of Crypta’s upcoming North American tour with Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Septicflesh and Thrown Into Exile.
Crypta describe “A Portrait Of Decay” as the first taste of the band’s new era and the introduction of their current lineup.
“‘A Portrait Of Decay’ is the first song off this new chapter of the band that we’d like to share with you, our fans. We decided to release it before the album campaign as a way to present the new line-up to you and show you what kind of sound you can expect in this new era of the band. We chose this song because we think it summarizes the whole atmosphere of how our new music will sound. It’s an intense, atmospheric, melancholic, but still epic and aggressive death metal track that talks about dissociation as means to enduring pain and suffering.”
The new track is available digitally, while a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl pressing is also available through Napalm Records.
The accompanying video was directed as a visual representation of the song’s themes. Drummer Luana Dametto explained that the clip contrasts the intensity of Crypta’s death metal with a more atmospheric and cinematic visual approach.
“The video clip is both an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound but also a cinematic depiction of the lyrics: An ethereal and almost dream-like landscape that represents someone’s true state of being, clear thoughts and light emotions, that slowly dissipate with the passing of time and changing of surroundings, and with the night and a much darker environment, after a while, feelings of being adrift and astray arise, showing that our conditions and time can directly change the way we see ourselves and the way we feel and interact.”
Crypta will take “A Portrait Of Decay” on the road during their upcoming North American run. The currently announced dates are:
