Currents have officially entered a new chapter, announcing their signing with Rise Records alongside details of their upcoming studio album, ‘Our Fates Lie In Tandem’. The new record is scheduled to arrive February 12 and is being introduced with the release of a music video for its opening single, “Retributioner.”
The metalcore outfit handled production internally through guitarist Chris Wiseman, with Ricky Armellino of Ice Nine Kills assisting. The video for “Retributioner” was co-directed by Chris Klumpp (Gideon, 156/Silence) and Erick Easterday (Wage War, ERRA).
The band expressed their excitement about joining the Rise Records roster, highlighting the label’s longstanding influence on their musical upbringing.
“The legacy of Rise is unmatched. The impact of their work has been felt by all of us for as long as we’ve loved music. We’re so excited to work with them on this new era of our band.”
As for the new single, Currents described “Retributioner” as a song about “how our world smothers the righteous.” The group explained that its lyrics challenge the pressure to abandon personal principles in favor of hostility and competition.
“We’re told that to get anywhere in life you need to abandon your principles and cut through others as they would to you. Fostering a sense of war-mindedness regarding those we compete with, debate with, and don’t agree with. ‘Retributioner’ seeks to dismantle those ideas, even if it means dismantling the structures and systems perpetuating them.”
The band also reflected on the lengthy process behind ‘Our Fates Lie In Tandem’, describing the album as a multi-year undertaking that pushed them to rethink their songwriting approach.
“Putting this record together has been an intense, multi-year process that has challenged our existing framework of songwriting. We took no shortcuts in building these songs up to be the best and most cohesive of our career. While it wasn’t quick or easy to make this album, watching and participating in this project, from demos to the final masters, has been such a satisfying and cathartic experience.”
‘Our Fates Lie In Tandem’ will feature 11 tracks and is available for pre-order through the band’s official pre-order page.
