Bay Area progressive metal experimentalists Cyborg Octopus have returned with a brand-new Rob Watkins-directed music video for their latest single, “28 Songs Later.”
Staying true to their unpredictable reputation, the track is described by the band as “saxophonic deathcore for the undead,” blending extreme metal brutality with unhinged genre experimentation.
Produced, mixed, and mastered by Zack Ohren (All Shall Perish, Machine Head), the single highlights the band’s ability to fuse technical death metal, deathcore, and avant-garde elements into one chaotic package. Frontman Ian Forsythe leads the charge vocally, while bassist Max Coley and drummer Josh Mathis lock in the track’s relentless pacing. Meanwhile, guitarist Bobby Carroll and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Corona push the band’s signature sound into unpredictable territory with intricate guitar work, keys, and saxophone layers.
Since emerging from the Northern California underground with their 2016 debut Learning to Breathe, Cyborg Octopus have built a reputation for high-energy performances and a refusal to conform to any single genre identity—drawing comparisons to acts like Between the Buried and Me and Native Construct.
To support the new release, the band will embark on a packed touring schedule this summer and fall, first headlining across North America before joining major acts on the road later in the year.
