Benediction vocalist Dave Ingram has announced that he is stepping away from the band due to worsening health complications tied to arthritis.
Despite his decision to retire from the group, Ingram revealed that he still plans to perform select farewell appearances with the veteran death metal outfit throughout 2026.
In a statement addressing his departure, Ingram explained:
“Due to the current state of my arthritis now, I have to withdraw as vocalist for Benediction.”
He continued by detailing the physical toll the condition has taken on him in recent years:
“The increase in pain, and the frustration it causes from its debilitation, has led me to this disconsolate decision.”
Before officially bowing out, Ingram hopes to properly thank fans during his remaining appearances with the band:
“I will be performing select shows with the band during 2026 as I would like a chance to say farewell and thank you to the fans who have supported us throughout the years.”
The band themselves later confirmed that upcoming appearances will feature a rotating lineup of guest vocalists depending on Ingram’s health and availability.
Among those stepping in are Oscar Rilo, who will handle the band’s May performances in Germany after previously earning praise for recent fill-in appearances in Spain, and former Benediction vocalist Dave Hunt, who is set to return for select festival performances including Iron Fest and Mystic Festival.
In their own statement, the band emphasized that they intend to continue honoring all scheduled live commitments:
“As you would expect Benediction do not want to cancel ANY shows.”
They also expressed gratitude toward both replacement vocalists and longtime supporters during what they described as a difficult transition period for the band.

Ingram originally joined Benediction in the early 1990s and became one of the most recognizable voices in British death metal through his work with the group across multiple eras of their career.
