St. Louis, MO-based alternative metal outfit dead7 have unveiled their latest visual offering, premiering the official music video for “Cannibal.”
The new track arrives through SharpTone Records and pairs the band’s heavier side with some newer musical elements. The accompanying video was directed by Austin Scherzberg.
For vocalist Jason Kozik, however, “Cannibal” is rooted in a much more personal subject. The song explores the intrusive thoughts and emotional struggles associated with living with major depressive disorder, particularly the difficulty of fully embracing positive moments even when life appears to be moving in the right direction.
Kozik explained:
“‘Cannibal’ is a song that represents how someone with a mental disorder may feel. This song dives into the feelings and thoughts I’ve been dealt while battling major depressive disorder. No matter how well things are going in life or anything positive that’s been happening, there’s still that one thought in your head stopping yourself from enjoying life and the things in it. We wanted to find a good balance between the heavier side of our instrumentals while including a few newer things for us.”
With “Cannibal,” dead7 continue expanding their sound while maintaining the weight that has become central to the band’s alternative metal approach.
