Defeated Sanity have unleashed their new single, “The Odour Of Sanctity”, upon the world. The video for the track, directed by Obscenery Films, has just premiered online. The progressive death metal juggernaut is set to release their seventh studio album, Chronicles Of Lunacy, via Season Of Mist on November 22nd. Recording sessions for the album took place at Thousand Cave Studios in Queens, NY, under the guidance of Colin Marston (Krallice, etc.).
Drummer Lille Gruber shared his thoughts on this upcoming effort:
“The last few DS albums leaned heavily on the proggier side of our sound. We still like to experiment, but on our new album, we wanted to get back to the raw slamming that our fans love about ‘Psalms of the Moribund‘ or ‘Chapters of Repugnance‘”.
He also added, “We love experimenting. But we realized that some of our oldest fans might have gotten lost after our last couple of albums. With the new one, we wanted to focus more on neck-snapping brutality.”
Vocalist Josh Welshman delved into the lyrical inspiration for the effort, noting, “Each song deals with a different strain of mental corruption.” Regarding this lead single, which addresses religious fanaticism, the group collectively stated:
“In true DS fashion, ‘Odour‘ showcases the full range of our sound. It’s freaky but also unrelentingly brutal, which represents the crossroad that we ended up at on ‘Chronicles of Lunacy‘. Even though the album can get pretty fucking weird, there’s still a emphasis on straight-up slamming.”
