DEFTONES’ Stephen Carpenter Guitar from ‘White Pony’ & ‘Around The Fur’ Valued at $55,000

A piece of Deftones history has just been appraised at a jaw-dropping $55,000. The instrument in question — an ESP Horizon Custom — was used by guitarist Stephen Carpenter during the recording of the band’s 1997 album Around The Fur and their 2000 landmark release White Pony.

The guitar also made appearances in the “Change (In The House Of Flies)” and “Back To School (Mini Maggit)” music videos, served as a touring guitar for several years, and was featured in multiple live TV performances.

The six-string’s value was boosted by White Pony’s recent second platinum certification in the U.S., as well as its enduring status as one of alternative metal’s defining albums. Released 25 years ago, White Pony marked the band’s move away from the peak of nü-metal into a more atmospheric, genre-defying sound — a creative gamble that cemented their legacy.

The guitar now belongs to a private collector, who spent five years tracking it down before acquiring it last year. Carpenter has since authenticated the instrument, which still sports its original Hed PE and Stuck Mojo stickers.
