Devolution have unveiled the official music video for their track “Deceiver, Believer”, the title cut from their debut album, which was released last June. The band teamed up with Scott Hansen (known for his work with Upon A Burning Body and Meshuggah) to direct the video, and shared their excitement about the shoot:
“Scott Hansen definitely showed us what Hot-lanta was all about! The video was shot at Scott’s Digital Thunderdome Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, where there was no shortage of fire and gas on the set! Pallet fire, house fire, 30-foot wall of fire… It’s all there! We had so much fun shooting the video for ‘Deceiver, Believer’ and are happy to report that we all came out unscathed! The team and crew did an amazing job, and we’re stoked with how everything turned out!”
The track holds deep personal significance for vocalist Jon Howard (also of Threat Signal), who expressed his emotional connection to the song:
“‘Deceiver, Believer’ hits very hard for me. Honestly, every single time I hear it, I get goosebumps, and by the end, I am in tears. I reached into a very deep and dark place to create these lyrics. The progression of the song and lyrics couldn’t have worked out better to deliver my message. Big thanks to my bandmates for creating this amazing song for me to get my emotions out!”
The band also features Christian Olde Wolbers (bass – Powerflo, ex-Vio-lence/Fear Factory), Eric Tysor (guitar), and Nate Beberdick (drums – Deviation).

Lol. That was not very good. That’s my 2 cents.
No thanks.
That was….awful
Whiny vocals and just go back to the drawing board.
I don’t remember his clean vocals being as whiney as they come across, but I’m here for it. 🤘 Dig the album as well.
Shawn E. Shango I noticed between the first and second threat signal albums his cleans did change, and not for the better. Second album felt too nasal or something? I dunno. First album I keep on regular rotation though.
Jon Mallard ya, I agree. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s almost like he started listening to more pop punk and claimed a bit of the aesthetic. I still dig it all, just a noticeable change.
Yeah… if “octane Liquid Metal Core” was a sound, that would be it. So so so uber generic. And I’m not trying to hate, it’s just: fuck that snare sounded so digital and fake, in fact the entire drum performance did, the guitars were just so blah, the vocals whiny and tinny with the stereotypical outro screaming, and the bass was full and thick but didn’t sit in the mix well at all. Not the caliber I would expect out of a production from these individuals. This just felt like an attempt to do the Bad Wolves (radio rock) thing from members of other heavier bands.
Brent Simmons this is EXACTLY how I took it as well. Had higher hopes for something original. Thanks Brent for summing it up to a tee!
So good! 🤘🤘
Go check out that singer’s first band with Christian.. ARKAEA… mostly of music that was intended for the 3rd Fear Factory Album without Dino..
Sean Frank the last album Raymond drummed on. I enjoyed that album. Still listen to it on occasion.
Sean Frank I saw them at the whiskey one year. Really good
Randy Pannell
The song sucks, but the worst for me is this fruit loops Basic kit snare sound. Just awful.
Safe dad rock. My pastor will like this.
calm down edge lord
Jason Comeau Haha! This is a good one fr! 🤣 Give the record a shot when you get some time 🤘🤘 https://open.spotify.com/artist/569WnRq8KbC71ATiqAoOB4
That band name is so original.
Meh. I’m surprised they didn’t go the chick singer route. That’s so trendy right now.
Neil MihalichThere’s been female vocals for decades, ya fuckin melt. 😂
Scott R. White now more than ever in metal. It’s a trend. So hot right now.
Neil MihalichYeah… but no though
Scott R. White You’re not paying attention to much, and that’s ok 😁👍
Neil MihalichBeen listening to metal for decades, but okay. Still a massively male dominated scene, but female vocalists are nothing new.
Scott R. White I didn’t say just female vocalists. There’s a female vocalist trend going on. Lots of metal bands are getting female singers because it’s a trend. It’s not like it’s a secret. You’re just trying to be “anti” and that’s ok.
Neil MihalichAnti what? 😂 Convinced this is a bot account now
Scott R. White anti anything. Just to be smarter than whoever. It’s OK, some guys need that 🤷
Neil MihalichDefinitely a bot account.
Scott R. White Edgy response. I’m sooo offended 😆
Neil MihalichI’m not trying to offend you. I don’t expect someone to be offended by my saying that women have been in metal for decades. But your Facebook account seems really off.
Scott R. White ok lol. Pretty standard account, bro. I’m just a guy pointing out that there’s a female vocalist trend. Not denying that women have been in metal in the past. It’s just trendy now. Just like putting females in historical lyrics male roles in cinema. It’s a fad. I didn’t even look at YOUR account because I’m not a cancel culture creep lol. Now go about your business and enjoy your trendy female vocalist fad.
Eww don’t like that
I’m good. I’ll save it for the ones who enjoy this kind of thing
Garbage. I said it.
So soft and something Jose Mangin would love
Jonathan Musgrove Haha this is a good one too lol!! Say it louder so he’ll hear you!! 🙏 Appreciate you checking it out!
Thanks for sharing The Mosh Network🤘🤘 And thank you all in the comments that checked it out! 🙏
I respect the grind. Been following Jon around since threat signal, arkaea, Imonolith. There is this whole group of interconnected musicians involved in all these projects and it’s inspiring to see. As always there’s potential and greatness, and I can’t wait to see what you guys do with it! 🤘
Wasn’t very impressed
Hey let’s do a band that sounds like Killswitch Park. It’ll possibly pay some bills.
Definitely catching this 🤘🤘
Started playing it and then my cat took a shit in the litter box.
The band is alright but the vocals are God awful. He sounds like his nuts are caught in a vice…
Stole my trademark 😑
Mark Mothersbaugh has entered the chat
in church in the front row
Emo metalcore….not my cup of coffee….sorry guys….!!!
Marcelo This is better than 95% of modern metalcore Jon Howard has such a unique voice
That is god awful.
Song was straight trash but the production was great
