Dimmu Borgir have officially welcomed Kjell Åge Karlsen — better known as Damage — as their new lead guitarist for upcoming live performances. The Norwegian symphonic black metal legends revealed the lineup addition earlier today, following months of rehearsals with the guitarist.
The band issued the following statement:
“We’re excited to proudly welcome Damage to the team, and we’re all looking forward to sharing the stage with him this summer and onwards. It’s already been a pleasure working and rehearsing with Damage over the last couple of months and we hope that you, the fans, will join us in welcoming him to the line up!”
Damage steps in for longtime guitarist Galder (Thomas Rune Andersen), who exited the band in August 2023 to dedicate his focus to his main project, Old Man’s Child.
Though Dimmu Borgir continues to operate with just two core original members — Shagrath (vocals) and Silenoz (rhythm guitar) — the band’s extended live lineup has kept their shows massive, theatrical, and powerful. Damage now joins that cadre as the latest member helping bring the band’s signature blackened symphonic chaos to the stage.

I saw him play with dimmu for the first time at tons of rock 2025. Did a phenomenal job.
