Distant have unveiled another preview of their forthcoming album ‘Into Despair’, teaming up with Spite vocalist Darius Tehrani for the new single “The Shallow Gaze.”
The track arrives with a new music video directed by Jachym Belcher and follows August’s “Flesh And Nails,” which featured a guest appearance from Bodysnatcher vocalist Kyle Medina.
Both songs will appear on ‘Into Despair’, which Distant are scheduled to release on November 6. The deathcore outfit have packed the upcoming record with guest appearances, also bringing in Suffocation vocalist Ricky Myers, The Last Ten Seconds Of Life‘s Tyler Beam, and Varials and CELL vocalist Skyler Conder.
According to Distant, “The Shallow Gaze” explores the paranoia and self-doubt that can develop when someone is constantly questioning whether the people around them can be trusted.
The band also use the track to examine the idea of impostor syndrome and the pressure to continually justify personal suffering, particularly in environments where sharing trauma can become competitive.
“The track confronts impostor syndrome and the exhausting need to validate your own suffering in environments where trauma dumping has become a form of one-upmanship.”
The group said the song ultimately focuses on the psychological impact of constantly questioning other people’s intentions and reaching the point where self-doubt becomes difficult to escape.
“‘The Shallow Gaze’ captures the psychological toll of constantly questioning the intentions of those around you — and the realization that sometimes, the hardest person to trust is yourself.”
With ‘Into Despair’ now less than two months away, “The Shallow Gaze” offers another look at the deathcore band’s increasingly collaboration-heavy new record.
