DISTURBED’s David Draiman Addresses Controversy With Emotional Speech In Amsterdam: “We’re Going To Tell You From Our Own Mouths How We Feel”

Disturbed frontman David Draiman took a moment during the band’s October 14th performance at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to address recent controversy surrounding his past actions and vocal support of Israel during the Israel-Gaza conflict.

The remarks came days after renewed criticism over Draiman’s 2024 decision to sign an Israel Defense Forces artillery shell with the phrase “Fuck Hamas.” The move sparked widespread backlash at the time, with some accusing the singer of being insensitive to civilian casualties and promoting violence. The controversy has persisted, and this week it led to the cancelation of the band’s October 15th show in Brussels, Belgium.

The concert was scrapped by local mayor Charles Spapens, who cited safety concerns amid limited police availability due to a national strike and potential protest risks. Spapens stated:

“My priority and responsibility is the safety of residents, demonstrators, spectators and the staff of Forest National. Given the unfavourable opinion of the police and the unique geographical location of the venue, it was my duty to take this decision.”

Following the cancelation, Disturbed released an official statement emphasizing inclusion and unity:

“Music is where all our differences fade into the background. Music has the power to heal, to inspire and to bring people together, it’s not about what divides us… Everyone who comes to a Disturbed concert is accepted and loved. We are saddened that our fans in Belgium are not going to be able to share in this celebration of music.”

At the Amsterdam show, Draiman brought his bandmates to center stage and addressed the audience directly, confronting the controversy and calling for unity:

“There have been certain people out there trying to put words in our mouths… So instead of listening to the people who can’t stop talking about everything they’re angry about, we’re going to tell you from our own mouths how we feel. We in Disturbed are all about unity… Everyone is welcome at these shows.”

He continued:

“It doesn’t matter if you’re Israeli or Palestinian. Everyone is welcome in our house every time we take the stage. Sometimes darkness can show you the light.”

After the speech, Disturbed launched into their 2015 single “The Light”, amplifying the message of togetherness and resilience.

The band is currently touring Europe and the UK in celebration of their multi-platinum 2000 debut ‘The Sickness’, with Megadeth serving as direct support.
