Down have officially released their new single “The Myth,” along with a new music video for the track. The song serves as the latest preview of the NOLA supergroup’s long-awaited new album ‘Volume V’, which is due out November 20.
The upcoming 10-track effort will mark Down’s first proper full-length addition to their catalog since the band completed their two-part EP series in 2014.
MetalDave Media directed the newly released video, while the members of Down offered their own takes on the new track.
Vocalist Phil Anselmo pointed to the song’s classic influences, particularly Trouble, while also citing legendary vocalists including James Dewar, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne and Glenn Hughes.
“‘The Myth’ has some epic moments. It’s a jammer. It’s got a big nod to Trouble, but vocally I’m thinking of James Dewar, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Glenn Hughes, and many of the other greats.”
Guitarist Kirk Windstein called the track an example of the collaborative approach that has long defined Down, while fellow guitarist Pepper Keenan described it as a classic Down track that eventually ventures into a ’70s-inspired jam.
Bassist Pat Bruders noted that “The Myth” came together particularly naturally once the band were working on it collectively, while drummer Jimmy Bower singled it out as one of his favorite songs on the forthcoming record.
Down currently have several live appearances scheduled, including the Pantera-led The Great NOLA Trendkill festival.
- 10/24 Fort Worth, TX — Sick New World Texas
- 11/20-21 New Orleans, LA — The Great NOLA Trendkill
