Platinum-certified power metal veterans DragonForce have officially announced their 10th studio album, which will arrive as a self-titled release on March 19, 2027.
The upcoming record will mark a new chapter for the band following the recent announcement that vocalist Marc Hudson is stepping back from frontman duties due to ongoing tinnitus issues. Hudson will remain involved with DragonForce in a managerial capacity, but will not appear as the primary vocalist on the new album.
Taking over vocal duties are Alessio Garavello of Power Quest, who previously served as Hudson’s vocal coach, and Alissa White-Gluz of Blue Medusa and formerly of Arch Enemy. The newly configured lineup has now unveiled its first offering with the single “Hunger Of The Beast,” accompanied by an official music video.
Guitarist Herman Li, who co-founded DragonForce, discussed the band’s approach to their 10th album:
“Every time we begin making another album, we just think, ‘Wow – I can’t believe we’re still doing what we love after all these years.’ The approach of the tenth album is as important as the first one, or any of the albums, because the way we look at music is we’re making a piece of art that’s going to be frozen in time. We always try to use everything we’ve learned from our years of experience, and put that into the new music.
“This is unlike any DragonForce album you’ve ever heard, and unlike any metal albums out there. There’s just nothing like it, and everyone listening will realize that straight away. We’re not trying to be commercial. We’re not trying to be popular. We’re not trying to be famous. We make music because we want to make something that we love to hear and elevate our musicianship to the next level.”
White-Gluz also shared her enthusiasm about joining forces with the band for the new material.
“I have loved the entire process of making music with DragonForce. It’s great to connect with such elite musicians and work together to really bring out the best of our respective styles. I think this new combo of speed and ferocity is refreshing and exciting. It’s going to be so much fun to perform live.”
Pre-orders for the new album are now available, with the self-titled effort set to arrive next March.
Meanwhile, DragonForce will hit the road in North America this fall for a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 2006 album ‘Inhuman Rampage’.
That record featured the band’s signature track “Through The Fire And Flames,” which later earned platinum certification and became particularly well known through its inclusion in the video game ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock’.
