Dead Kennedys guitarist and founding member East Bay Ray has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The 67-year-old musician’s diagnosis was announced on September 22 through a statement issued by the band’s management. According to the statement, Ray intends to remain active with the influential punk group for as long as his health permits.
“Dead Kennedys management announced today that the band’s guitarist and founding member, East Bay Ray, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Ray says he plans to continue performing and touring with Dead Kennedys for as long as his health allows, and expressed his appreciation to everyone for their continued support.”
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that can affect movement and balance, with symptoms potentially including tremors and changes in speech.
The announcement comes during a difficult period for Dead Kennedys fans. Former frontman Jello Biafra has also been dealing with significant health issues following a hemorrhagic stroke he suffered in March of this year.
Despite his diagnosis, East Bay Ray has indicated that he plans to continue performing and touring with Dead Kennedys while his health allows.
