ELDER Release New Tracks “Liminality” / “Dream State Return” With Cinematic Short Film

Progressive psych rock outfit Elder have returned with a special two-song release, unveiling “Liminality” and “Dream State Return.” While divided into separate tracks, the pieces were written as one continuous work of music, clocking in at 18 minutes in total.

The band dropped the release today, September 22nd, alongside a short film directed by Malachi Cull, designed to match the sprawling and cinematic nature of the music. The full video can be viewed now on YouTube.

In a statement, Elder explained the project’s origins:

“After a sort of creative sabbatical in most of 2024, the band reconvened in Berlin last winter to start work on a new album. In the process of that, we decided to dust off a project that had been sitting on the shelf for years. What started as a few scraps from the Omens / Innate Passage era turned into an 18-minute jam that surprised even us — a track with one foot in our past and one in our future. Feeling this track neither belonged to that older era nor was quite ready for the upcoming Album 7, we chose to record it there on the spot and give it its own space as a special release.”

The release is available now digitally via Bandcamp. For vinyl collectors, a translucent coke-bottle green 12″ pressing — etched on the B-side — can be picked up through Stickman Records, Armageddon Shop, and Echodelick Records.

Artwork for the EP was handled by Adam Hill, while the film was a collaboration with longtime friend @_speedwolf.

Elder added: “This one feels special to us — hope you’ll dig it too.”
