Elijah Blue Allman, vocalist for electro-rock outfit Deadsy and son of pop icon Cher and the late Gregg Allman (The Allman Brothers Band), has reportedly been hospitalized following an overdose in Southern California. The incident is said to have taken place over the weekend, with TMZ reporting that Allman was rushed to the hospital on the morning of June 14th. At this time, the substance involved has not been publicly disclosed.
The news arrives in the wake of a long-standing public battle with substance abuse that has followed Allman for years. It also comes months after he and his mother settled a legal dispute regarding a conservatorship tied to a trust fund established by his late father.
Last year, Cher filed for temporary conservatorship over Elijah, aiming to halt his access to annual payments from the trust, which reportedly amount to approximately $120,000 per year. In court documents filed at the time, Cher stated:
“Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, petitioner [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk. Elijah is currently unable to manage his finances and the distribution of funds directly to Elijah would not be in his best interests.”
In early 2024, Elijah testified that he had been “clean and sober” for three months. He also shared that he was receiving treatment under the care of Dr. Howard Samuels, regularly attending AA meetings, and working toward reconciling with his wife:
“Like many people, I have struggled with addiction and spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible. However, I am now under the care of Dr. Howard Samuels and am attending AA meetings. I have dismissed my petition for dissolution of marriage and I am reconciling with my wife so that we can work on our relationship now that I have found a path to sobriety.”
At the time of this writing, no official statement has been released by Elijah Blue Allman or his representatives. We’ll update as more information becomes available.
