Enter Shikari have announced plans to enter an indefinite hiatus at the end of 2027, bringing the band’s current run of recording and performing activity to a close after two decades.
The British alternative rock outfit revealed the news on October 1, explaining that the decision follows an extended period of discussions about the band’s future. The announcement also comes shortly after vocalist Rou Reynolds spoke publicly about struggling with burnout, OCD and other personal issues, prompting further conversations within the group.
Rather than describing the move as a breakup, Enter Shikari said they intend to become dormant as a recording and performing entity after December 31, 2027, while leaving open the possibility of eventually returning.
“As of December 31st 2027, Enter Shikari will fall dormant as a recording and performing entity. This dormancy may eventually end with an eruption back into activity, or may end with extinction. We have no idea which.”
The band noted that 2027 will mark the 20th anniversary of their debut album, ‘Take To The Skies’. They also reflected on the pressures that have accompanied maintaining a career in music for two decades, particularly while trying to operate outside of conventional genre boundaries.
“We are far from being the same kids who recorded that debut album, and as much as we love what we do, and still love being in each other’s company, as humans our priorities and capacities have changed.”
According to the group, discussions about slowing down had already been taking place before Reynolds’ recent struggles, with the demands of the modern music industry and the members’ lives outside of Enter Shikari contributing to the decision.
“While we don’t think we’re ‘splitting up’, we do not have a diary that extends beyond 2027.”
The band currently have a number of plans in place for the next 14 months, beginning with their Lose Your Self tour in November. They are also working on new music and have indicated that another project they recently filmed will be unveiled in the near future.
Several mainland European and North American festival appearances are already scheduled for 2027, while Enter Shikari also plan to announce additional U.S. shows in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee for January.
The group stressed that there will not be a traditional farewell world tour, although they hope to return to some of their favorite places before entering their hiatus.
They also intend to celebrate several major album anniversaries in 2027, including the 20th anniversary of ‘Take To The Skies’, the 10th anniversary of ‘The Spark’ and the 15th anniversary of ‘A Flash Flood Of Colour’.
The band revealed that they have already been revisiting the original multitracks from ‘Take To The Skies’, suggesting that anniversary-related material could be on the way.
“We definitely want to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Take To The Skies – along with the 10th anniversary of The Spark, and the 15th of A Flash Flood Of Colour.”
For now, Enter Shikari say their focus remains on making the most of the time they have left together as an active band, while acknowledging that their future beyond 2027 remains deliberately uncertain.
“We really hope we’ll be seeing you over the next fourteen months or so, somehow. But, if not, all that remains to be said is thank you for your support, your sweat, your passion, your energy.”
