Escuela Grind have shared additional details regarding the incident that forced the band to relocate their June 6 performance in Berlin, Germany, after alleging a confrontation with an individual they were told was the venue’s head of security.
Earlier today, the metallic hardcore outfit announced that their scheduled show at Urban Spree had been moved to Tommyhaus, citing safety concerns following an alleged altercation involving vocalist Katerina Economou and guitarist Jesse Fuentes.
According to information provided to The Mosh Network by a member of the band, the incident occurred as the group’s van was backing into the venue to unload equipment.
The band claims that Fuentes, formerly the group’s drummer before switching to guitar, was standing outside the vehicle with members of supporting acts and the show’s promoter when an individual identified as security approached them.
Escuela Grind allege that the individual struck Fuentes, making contact with his glasses and knocking them off his face.
The group further claims the situation escalated when the individual noticed Economou filming the incident, allegedly turning aggressive toward her.
According to the band, venue ownership was then called in to address the situation. They state the owner sided with the individual and accused Fuentes of being the aggressor, citing his manner of attempting to get attention.
The band also alleges that the individual was later described by venue staff as a cook at a nearby business, despite earlier being identified as security. They say other staff members supported this revised account.
Escuela Grind say they refused to perform unless the individual was removed from the premises. When the venue declined, discussions began about relocating the show.
The promoter ultimately secured Tommyhaus as a replacement venue, allowing the performance to go ahead. The band claims they were later informed the individual had been fired, though the relocation had already been finalized.
In their original statement, the band said:
“BERLIN! LAST MINUTE VENUE CHANGE!!
Tonight’s show at Ubran Spree has been moved to Tommyhaus due to Katerina & Jess being assaulted by head Security upon arrival. We do not feel it is safe for us, the bands, or our fans to perform at Urban Spree in light of what we and other staff had to experience/witness. VERY thankful for Tommyhaus helping us keep the show alive and we can’t wait to see you there!”
