After being rejected by YouTube due to graphic content, Exodus have officially released their new music video for “3111” via social media platform X. The thrash metal veterans confirmed on January 21st that the clip failed to meet YouTube’s community guidelines, despite multiple attempts to edit it down for approval.
The video’s disturbing imagery directly reflects the song’s subject matter, which draws from the brutal cartel-related violence that plagued Juárez, Mexico. The band explained that the track was intentionally chosen as a confrontational lead single.
“We decided to go hard with the leadoff single, ‘3111‘. The song is about the narco killings in Juarez, and ‘3111’ is the estimated number of murders for 2010 alone.”
Guitarist Gary Holt also revealed that the band is continuing work on an alternate, censored cut of the video in hopes of eventually getting it cleared for YouTube.
“3111” serves as the first single from Exodus’ upcoming twelfth studio album Goliath, which is currently scheduled for release on March 20th.
