Long Island, NY crossover outfit Extinction A.D. have released their latest single, “Escape From L.I.”, marking the band’s eighth new song of 2026.
The track sees vocalist/guitarist Rick Jimenez, who is also a member of This Is Hell, incorporating both English and Spanish into his vocal performance. It marks only the second time Jimenez has recorded a song featuring Spanish vocals, with the musician continuing to develop his abilities in the language.
A new lyric visualizer accompanies the track, while Jimenez explained that the song was inspired by his increasingly negative view of the environment surrounding his hometown.
“Long Island has become such a cesspool for obnoxious attitudes and disgusting displays of hate and division. I grew up here and was aware of this my whole life but over the past few years it’s gotten even more out of hand.”
Jimenez said that watching his home region become increasingly hostile has been difficult, while emphasizing the importance of speaking out against hateful behavior.
“Seeing your home area turn into a vile environment is tough. Standing against it, calling it out and letting your neighbor know that hate isn’t acceptable is important.”
Musically, “Escape From L.I.” also allowed Extinction A.D. to experiment beyond their established crossover sound. Jimenez incorporated additional Latin percussion into the band’s thrash metal and hardcore foundation, including touches inspired by bomba and reggaeton.
“Switching between English and Spanish throughout the song and complementing that with some more auxiliary Latin percussion was super cool. A tinge of bomba flare and a bit of reggaeton flare thrown into a thrash metal/hardcore hybrid felt crazy on paper but perfect in practice.”
Jimenez acknowledged that he is still learning Spanish, but said pushing himself further with the language felt particularly fitting for this song.
“I am still not fluent under any circumstance, but I am learning. Flexing those muscles a bit more on this song, particularly, was gratifying and felt appropriate.”
